It’s the freewheel in the feeder. It gets gunk built up behind it so you need to remove the c clip, clean the inside of the wheel, clean the shaft it sits on, grease it and put it back together.
-
Yes.
-
You can use just one but as you said the other slot needs to be empty. The machine expects 2 of the same or only 1 in the primary location (right hand slot).
-
Yes you should be able to run pla. Do you have 2 cartridges of pla installed?
-
Gray or blue sides? If gray you’ll need the updated extruder to run pla. If your machine is under a year old you can get it free from xyz.
-
Then you didn’t do the pressure dial right. Prints were much better and it was much easier to calibrate with the pressure dial.
-
First you have to get a proper calibration reading since you decided to use the built in calibration. Clean the contact point if all else fails then use a wire brush to hit the head of the nozzle. If you go this route then you’ll need to do it at all 3 points. Count to 2 or 3 then hit the head so it…

Change your raft layers and density. I usually do 3 raft layers and 45 for the fill. You’re trying to save material and doing 1 layer that won’t help. Based on the item pictures idk why you’re using a raft. It appears to have sufficient surface area to stick to the print bed.

I actually have 2 alphas. I had xyz davincis first but recently bought an alpha. After a week of use I decided to sell my davincis and buy a 2nd alpha. I love them. Other than the loud case fans (which I plan on replacing) I don’t have any complaints. It just worked out of the box. Simple to level, …

Is that better than the e3d v6?
-
You may not have it in the right spot. Pull up the lever and reposition the extruder so it’s closer to the front of the machine. It happened with my duo, I swore it was in tried that a few times even. Finally I pulled it out and put it back in and it seated properly.
-
Have you lubricated the pulley for the filament? What type of filament are you using?
-
That video is to remove the extruder. If you’re simply trying to clean it then unload the filament, run the cleaning program, use the wire brush to clean off the exterior then use the small needle like wire to clean the interior. Make sure that you push it in and pull it out quickly. You will notice…

Mine aren’t 2 yrs old but they all have substantial hours. 1300 on one, 900 on another. The 3rd is waiting for a main board replacement but has around 500 hours. They all run the newer PLA upgrade print head and other than the occasional jam no issues. If they get clogged and I can’t clear it in the…
-
I’ve never had an issue. I do use simplify3D instead of xyzware which gives you the chance to change heat. I’ve run my da vinci’s for days at a crack with only pauses to remove prints with no issues. What filament are you using? I’ve found xyz natural PLA jams like crazy but black prints no problem…
-
I actually have a spare print head for the duo that will print PLA. They’re $160 from xyz. I can go cheaper and it’s the xyz print head.
-
Honestly, stop buying xyz filament. Hatchbox is the only way to go. 40% cheaper and much better print quality. Buy a resetter and use an external filament holder. I wish I would’ve spent money on a resetter sooner.
-
I run PLA (hatchbox or xyzprinting) at 198c and the bed at 45c for the first layer then i tell the bed to drop to 20c but it never gets below 32c. If if you run PLA too hot it will clog. Brand will dictate temps.
-
As I said, if it’s the natural cancel it, trust me. It’s the worst stuff ever.
-
My suggestion is take the natural Xyz PLA out and immediately return it. I had nothing but issues with it (6 rolls) and it even clogged so bad that one of my extruders became useless. I have a friend who was also having issues. The black Xyz PLA is fine but the natural heats up in the feed tube and …
-
I had this happen 2x. It ended up being that I had xyzware open. Xyzware needs to restart in order to detect the new serial number of the filament.
-
I can use any filament I want with my machines running Xyz firmware. I can also control bed temps. Those are always the biggest 2 reasons I’ve heard to swap. Cant me you just compensate with the leveling of the bed or using the jog mode to reduce the z offset or is the z offset so drastic that thos…
-
I watched the videos and I have 1 question. Do you really need to put repetier on your machine to do his swap? At the end of the day you still have to use the board from the Davinci extruder to make the e3d v6 run so why do you need repetier host?
-
Yes but you have to do a lot of customizing and put repetier host firmware on your machine. Google Davinci 1.0 e3d v6 hot end to learn more. Thingiverse has the holder files for the hot end.
-
Just log into Xyz site and get the release notes. I never use xyzware for printing but it does allow rotation and leveling files much easier than S3D so I do occasionally use it for file rotation still.
-
I called and complained (knowing what the problem was) and they asked how old was it and basically said if it’s under a year old it would be under warranty and they could send me the PLA promotion link. A new extruder costs $100 so a free extruder is worth it BUT you have to have a 1.0 AND it has to…
-
I starting using simplify3D which has been an amazing software. My only real need is a filament resetter which a friend of mine is building so I’m not sure the advantages of repetier at this point. I’m still considering flashing one of my machines to try it out but I have lots of printing to do so I…
-
That makes sense. Thanks for the update.
-
Can you give me info on the learning curve? I’m back and forth on flashing repetier. I can control everything without flashing (heat, filament) so I’m struggling with the benefits vs issues that may happen and learning curve.
-
This is all sorts of wrong. He has a 1.0 with the wrong extruder so he’s using a back door method to use PLA. If he’s under warranty he can get a free extruder upgrade by opening a case on Xyz website and requesting the PLA Promotion. I I would no recommend doing this method. You’re begging for pro…
