First my idea was too large and too little time to implement, so I said that the size dosn’t matters and I focus on utility. Too soon I have a ball and decided to make cufflinks for my shirt. I am a fan of Star Wars so of course the cufflinks will be the theme in StarWars. They have been printed with a layer 0.15 in ABS. Everyone knows that the biggest problem is just the smallest prints, so it was this time.

I hope that someone like them and surely someone will use them:)

Cheers

Hey ! I am glad you like it

I don’t really have time for that these days, but maybe after the competition.

My painting skills are not so good, so my model might look very ugly after.

Hello Simona,

I understand that the deadline on March 21st but is there a cut off time? If there is a cut off time, please let us know the time and time zone.

Thank you!

Wes

+1 for NEW DESIGNS. Seems like someone is downvoting people all around and put you into the negatives. I really hope the judges totally neglect the votes. It’s creating a bad aura for the entire community.

I can’t promise it will be fantastic, but I can promise it will be a new model and not something that was an old project that gets thrown in the hat.

At least i am honest i did not make all 3 of them, made 1 of them and altered the others to fit bottles to be part of my whisky collection…

Hi to everyone this is my entry

It’s a R2D2 working with Arduino.

I will keep updating the design (electronic stuff) because many parts are coming in theese days.

Hope you like it.

Why are people downvoting new designs and upvoting old ones who should be disqualified? BAD 3dhubs, bad!

You need to credit the original artists when you take them. So your true entry is the Lars. You should only apply with that. Taking someone’s model and adding a cylinder isnt that hard…

If fully agree with this point. How can someone with an original design, who enters late ever compete with the early entries which have been copied

What a horribly ran contest. Simona obviosuly doesnt care with her copy and paste replies. Bad moderator. Heck there’s no moderation at all as you can see, she doesn’t even actively monitor this contest. I wouldn’t even be surprised they awarded the Ultimaker to a old design. 80% of these entries are old works made prior to this contest. 3dHubs you should be ashamed.

Hi K3,

I’ve read a few of your points which are totally right. I also believed this is competition is terribly ran. Maybe there should be a judging panel, rather than using up votes, as those who enter first have the most time to gain these up votes. I have already been down voted within hours of entering. How can this be fair?

They did say judges will be choosing the winners, but over half of the enteries are old works. If they choose a winner who’s just entered with their old works made prior to the announcement of this contest, I would have lost all respect for both 3DHubs and youimagine for sponsoring this abomination of a contest.

My entry is based on one of those hologram videos - It’s the holoprojector that Qui-Gon Jinn used and I parted it to print easily, the only tricky part to print are the 3 little legs.

I printed them in white and gave them a quick spraypaint to get them the right colour - you could also print them in gold and silver coloured filament, but you’d need to seperate the torus in the main stl file.

The obligatory ‘Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. you’re my only hope’ gif added to show its simple effect.

GOOD JOB! Someone that follows contest rules with new creations.

Cool but again made months before this contest. You should make a new low poly star wars for this contest. Btw, my nephews love the low poly pokemons made by you that I printed for them.

Thank you K3 with your support

I find all of your points to be true and am happy that you like my work. I hope this competition doesn’t crumble as it spent me a very long time to create my entry

Hi everyone,

This is my R2-D2 which was designed from scratch and printed off on my Da Vinci AiO printer at 100 microns. I do apologies for such a late entry and fully accept that I may have no chance of winning, but after spending days and days modelling the fantastic R2-D2 I thought I would enter the competition to show my creation.

It was printed in 7 parts, then assembled. The body was glued, with the head, while the legs were connected with joints, allowing it to pivot. All of these files are attached to this comment and may be scaled up to an appropriate size.

After reading a few of the comments I have come across a few complains highlighting that this competition requires a 3D printer in order to win another. I fully understand what many have said, but I would like to say that you may use the 3D hubs service. For future projects that anyone has I would be delighted to offer my assistance with my hub GIFT3D.

I hope that you all enjoy my project

To all over participants, MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

First Order

RTS-002 (Radar Technician Scanner Mark2)

This device is used by certified radar technicians on all First Order land or space-based transportation and military base support. It is designed to help quickly diagnose and repair flaws in the complex radial patterns that are produced when locating and tracking various types of vehicles and life forms.

This mark 2 design was implemented as a mandatory replacement for the mark 1 due to numerous flaws in design and functionality that was discovered by First Order leader Kylo Ren after his experience using the device during an undercover Starkiller Base recon operation as a radar technician.

Since implementation, there has been a lot of disagreement from First Order radar technicians about the new scanner and have expressed frustration that the functions are more cumbersome than the original design and have other highly questionable features that are deemed unnecessary, such as a described “loud creepy and raspy voice” that indicates when a scan completes as well as another button that no one in the First Order can explain, only that it produces what some call a strange electronic breathing sound with no known diagnosis or repair function. First Order Leader Kylo Ren refuses to discuss making any further changes to the design and has threatened sanitation duty to anyone who argues against any aspect of it.

Note from the designer - Kylo Ren
“The radar scanner I have put in place within the First Order is something I am most proud of. I would consider this to be the Grandfather of all scanners we have ever produced. I am also satisfied in how simple this device is to use. With a simple voice command ‘Show me’, the device will scan for any and all problems known from our vast troubleshooting holocron and then uplink to the scanner the most effective solution to mitigate error on the technician’s part.”

Case Study - Anonymous First Order Radar Technician**

This has to be one of the worst updates I have ever seen made to our scanners. Before the mark 2, we had a simple one-button diagnosis with a singular holo-readout that mapped out the source for where radar pulse blackouts happen. The mark 2 doesn’t completely work right. Also In the instruction guide there is supposed to be this ‘show me’ command, but it doesn’t do anything! It just sits there and never comes back with a proper diagnosis. I feel like i’m staring at something that adds no value to my job. Thankfully the green button is there as a manual press function that the mark 1 had.

The scan confirmation voice feedback thing is very annoying and loud. There is no way to override it into a silent mode. One of the buttons sounds like someone having a severe case of a loud breathing and have yet to get any answer as to what that even functionally does for us technicians. No one can give me a straight answer on this and rumor is the last person who did know this scanner inside and out was killed in an unfortunate freak accident in the manufacturing unit which also destroyed every mark 1 scanner and device blueprint to make more, so without a proper field testing area we continue to have to use these scanners without full training on the device.
