  • I actually did end up getting a rigidbot. I like the machine, however small things have had issues and to be frank there is 0 customer support. However the community on google plus is very helpful. If I were in your shoes and had the money, I would buy a Lulzbot. They are great quality and there are…

  • That looks good! Also, I’m curious, what printer are you using, and how well has it been working? I upgraded a Printrbot Simple Maker’s kit to an 8x8x8 build area, with double the original precision and some other stuff, but I’m looking for options to reuse the parts from my upgrade on a box style b…

  • Well, I just had to take my school’s Ultimaker 2 completely apart. We have to order a new extruder head, since ours has been having issues for almost a year :/… the extrusion is super unreliable. Unfortunately, the U2 is the only machine we’ve got that uses 2.85mm filament, since the two Makerbot Re…

  • Hey Adam! I haven’t had a chance to print again today, however I will be doing one this afternoon. I’ll do my best to document and uploard some pictures then

  • Hey guys, it’s Logan from the FlexSolid workshop last night. I managed to test out the 2.85mm filament on the Ultimaker 2 at my school today twice, for small prints. I was very happy with what I saw! The parts came out incredibly flexible yet strong, and the shape retention after being pulled, smush…

  • Hi, I’m lucky to be a highschool junior who has experience with a few different 3D printers. I have lots of experience with the Ultimaker 2, the Makerbot Replicator 2, and the Printrbot Simple Makers kit. I am not a fan of the Ultimaker 2 at all, I’ve probably had over 200 hours of prints in the las…

  • Not in my opinion. The quality of prints from a Printrbot is exponentially worse than a Rigidbot, I’ve printed on my printrbot before upgrades, it was really poor quality. The Rigidbot has very few kinks that I’ve heard of. I talk on instagram with a maker who owns a rigidbot, and then got hired by …

  • Ya it’s a nice printer. I’ve been using a Makerbot Replicator School since the beginning of my sophomore year in highschool, so I guess almost a year now, and I’ve had to take the damn thing apart and fix it over half a dozen times. Its not a bad machine, its just not that great for its price.

  • My first printer and the only one I have right now is a Printrbot Simple Makers kit. I upgraded it to almost 8x8x8inches, with a heated build plate, doubled the accuracy, and a bunch of other improvements, but that cost me $700, and is still inferior to a rigidbot…

  • I would reccomend a Rigidbot. A 10x10x10in build volume, extremely accurate, high speed (most people run it at 80mm/s, I run my Makerbot Rep. 2 at 40-50mm/s), heated build plate, etc. All for $580. I’m saving up for one right now!

  • Very simple, don’t buy either. Believe me, you want a Rigidbot. For $1400 you could get a 12x16x10 inch build volume, a super accurate printer (people run theirs at 80mm/s, that’s faster than I run my Makerbot Replicator 2), with a heated build plate, dual extruders, and a bunch of filament. If you …

  • E3D made something sort of like that. I think it was a dual motor/dual filament input sort of a Y that fed into the nozzle. The filaments retracts and extrudes from one or the other, as needed. It would be a little bit messier that two nozzles, but it looked promising

  • I’m looking forward to next Wednesday!

  • This is awesome! Will there be options to print our own designs one a special paper, or only premade ones?

  • Oh ya! Here I just grabbed this from the Instructable: https://scontent-sjc2-1.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xap1/t50.2886-16/11068875\_669178443211434\_1270865180\_n.mp4

  • I’m out in California so not too far away. What are you looking to print?

  • Hey folks I just posted my instructable for my S530 hexacopter design to Instructables! [_DSC0169.JPG] [_DSC0147.JPG] [_DSC0151.JPG] It has pictures and detailed explanations, and every single file you need to print it yourself! The whole frame is printed and folds downwards making it much mu…

  • Almost finished with the build. It’s lookin pretty good so far. I’ll post a new thread with some instructions and pictures soon enough!

  • Probably possible, but also note that with a piece with such a large surface area, but so thin, keeping it from warping during printing or afterwards would be hard. And many materials would be weathered over time be the record player. I’ve heard about people pulling it off with a laser cutter though…

  • For go quality over quantity is all I can really say. Also, if you aren’t experienced with 3D printing, you’d better get experienced with it before starting a business! But my point is: don’t buy 8 Makerbots or something, buy 1 or 2 very nice ones. The prints will be much better, AND it will be much…

  • Hey, I’m in the middle of calibrating my Printrbot 1405 kit, and am going to take it apart a week or two after I get it up and running. I’d love to hear where you all source parts from. I’m looking for an 8x8in HBP, a BP to go with it, a bunch of 40mm 12V fans, some longer threaded rods, etc. I’d pr…

  • Check out thingiverse.com they’ll have a bunch I’m sure. Almost anything you can think of will be on thingiverse

  • Although it looks crazy nice $1000 is out of my price range as well. However, at my school I have access to a CNC machine, an industrial laser cutter, and 2 Makerbots, and an Ultimaker, so I’m going to be modding the **** out of this thing over the summer

  • Oh whoops I thought you meant one of the older models. I can get up to the 8x8x8 and plenty sturdy for around $600, same as a Simple Metal so I’m going for the DIY approach. I may consider designing a box frame version once I’ve gotten it all setup and running well. Either that or atleast an enclosu…

  • I need 8x8 because for one thing, I can, and also because I design all sorts of stuff including some parts for multirotors which are long, and I’m used to using 2 Makerbot Replicators and an Ultimaker 2 at my school.

  • 8x8 is what I meant. 8x8x8 will be the final build area. I’d much rather upgrade the Simple myself. Ive heard good things about the metal, but I can get the Simple to an 8x8x8 with a HBP and sturdier than regular for around $600, so its cheaper to upgrade myself than spend $1000 to get the metal pri…

  • I don’t know if the Printrbot Plus is still available anywhere. I guess I could cut my own parts. I’m making it 8inx8x4(height, soon to be 8) and am doing a tri-rod modification to the y and z axes, which should help with stabilization. If you think the Plus would be better and know more about it I’…

  • Hey, I’m building my own 3D printer right now, and am wondering what 8x8in HBP would you all reccomend? I’m upgrading a Printrbot Simple Maker’s kit, and just realized the one I’m looking at will be discontinued before I can get it. I’m looking for a decent price, up to atleast 100C, 12V capable, an…

  • “You can print anything, so long as you write about it”? Sign me up for a job!

  • I scooped some of Proto Plants conductive filament up during their kickstarter campaign. Haven’t gotten to try it yet but am going to this summer!
