Does anybody have an idea when more colours are coming out for the Da Vinci Jr?

I already have green, yellow, black & transparent ones. Would like more vibrant colours, like

red, purple, pink, orange etc. I live in the Netherlands btw,

Cheers!

Hi, I also got a bit bored with the available colours, so I bought a couple of samples from online sellers and an original spool of the cheapest jr filament. I then spooled the samples onto a spool and used the chip from the cheap filament. I’ve been able to print all sorts of colours and materials this way without needing to hack anything or change anything on the printer. Not ideal, but it works.

I’m honest not sure but if you want more colors now you could flash your printer with repeater host. It works great and I would highly recommend it but if your a beginner then I might stay clear.

Thanks for your reply! Yes i also got bored. I will try your method. I hope it also works for me! Did u also print ABS with your JR?..

No, just PLA. But I found a place in the Netherlands that sell PLA in bamboo, wood, bronze and other cool materials. I just bought a few samples to see if they work, and so far haven’t had any issues.

Thank you for your feedback. But i am a beginner (for now). So i will stay clear. But thanks for the tip!

Ok thats great! I have a original spool now of the JR that is almost empty. And a sample i am going to spool on the Jr one. You also had the chip in your Jr spool right?..Because if there is not chip it won’t print it.

Yes, I use the chip from the new spool with the samples. It’s a bit of a waste of the new jr filament though, but at least the chip can be used for around 200 meters of sample filaments, which tend to come in 10 meter lengths - not enough for a big print, but at least enough for a couple of smaller ones. Hope it all goes well for you.

oh so i cant use a spool that i have used (with chip) and then spool the sample on it…It wont work then?..It must be a new chip?..fully unused? Sorry for the many questions btw

No, it’s me not explaining myself properly. You can use the old spool and new or old chip, but only if the chip hasn’t run down to 0 meters left on it. Once the chip measures that the spool should be empty, you can’t use it any more.

Awesome its working! Thanks  ! It took me a while to spool it from one to the other. But i am so happy its actually working.

Can’t wait to try other materials also. Thanks once again!

Hey!

I have made some very nice prints with other filament. But when switching back to Da Vinci Filament my prints are terrible. I have cleaned out my extruder and also nozzle etc. Tried many things but still the same. Have u experienced that?..I hope i have not messed up my extruder now due to other filaments?..

When you say terrible, what do you mean? I did find that I needed to tweak the z axis setting a little after changing filaments. The worst was the bronze and wood fill filaments, which were very difficult to print with and needed the most adjustment when I went back to proprietary filaments. I also found that I get much better quality prints using other filaments (not da Vinci ones).

My prints starts fine(ish). But then while building it extrudes too thin. So the build gets messed up and i have to cancel my prints. I have had that already 3 times. I find that my filament does not come out well. Nice and easy without any clogs etc. I am also have a hard time Loading my Filament. It wont load till may tries.

Ok so I just got my Da vinci JR yesterday and I plan on using off brand filaments. I wanna know if there is a way to bypass the chip that tells the printer to print and how much filament it has left. Now if I feed another filament while leaving the old chip in place would it not just tell the printer it is running empty and stop it from printing if so how can I bypass this or trick the printer so that i may use other filaments.

No Problem

But to be honest i’m a 13 yr old with a Da Vinci 1.0 and I was able to flash it with minimal problems. But I can understand why you might wanna stay clear.

I’ve been running some big prints using the DaVinci filament after changing back from the non-davinci stuff I bought, and they’re coming out as expected, so I’m not sure what’s going wrong for you. At a guess, it sounds like it could be that you need to tweak your z-axis setting a little. I’m told that this z-axis tweaking is a fairly regular thing. Also, on one of my very first prints I did when I first got my printer, the filament clogged up the outside of the nozzle behind the silver plate, and I just couldn’t get a good print. It was only after I removed the plate that I could see how much filament was clogged up behind it. I cleaned big lumps of it out and instantly got better quality results. I’m not sure if this is helpful to you.

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate it. I indeed tweaked my Z-axis. I moved it up abit and indeed the clicking is way less. I also removed the plate. There was nothing clogged but the extruder head was a but dirty/smudges so i cleaned it off.

I tested a print. Its started out fine. But after an hour my print got brittle. See attachment. You can clearly see where it starts to go wrong. I am just getting tired now. I have tried so many things i dont know what to do anymore…siigh

I had a random thought for this. I’ve been looking at the printer, and trying to determine where it measures the filament. If it’s at the feeder…ugh, but if it’s at the coil itself, wouldn’t it be possible to spoof it simply by locking a nearly empty roll in place, and just feed from an external roll looped around the empty and into the feed? Idk, I’m waiting for my new filament to show and I’ll see if it works.

What I noticed in my da Vinci 1.0 is that the printer doesn’t seam like it measures filament use, I think it calculates the usage in the slicer and basically subtracts it from the cartridges chip memory. There is an optical sensor in the extruder but I don’t think that it would be able to measure the use because the filament is always one color through out. I’m not sure if this is different in the da Vinci junior but it would be interesting to see how the printer does that. I’ll look into it more soon.
