My prints starts fine(ish). But then while building it extrudes too thin. So the build gets messed up and i have to cancel my prints. I have had that already 3 times. I find that my filament does not come out well. Nice and easy without any clogs etc. I am also have a hard time Loading my Filament. It wont load till may tries.

Ok so I just got my Da vinci JR yesterday and I plan on using off brand filaments. I wanna know if there is a way to bypass the chip that tells the printer to print and how much filament it has left. Now if I feed another filament while leaving the old chip in place would it not just tell the printer it is running empty and stop it from printing if so how can I bypass this or trick the printer so that i may use other filaments.

That sadly does no good on a davinci Jr. Due to the way they’re chippd, won’t work.

I saw this video on youtube where a guy bought clear pla and sprayed painted it different colors

I saw this video on youtube where a guy bought clear pla and sprayed painted it different colors

According to xyz, when I asked about it on mine, they incorporate extra filament for loading and for the little test strips it prints down one side before the main print. I’ve got 3 rolls of “empty” with varying amounts of filament left due to this

I am pretty sure that you can buy a spool of filament with the chip, unravel the xyz pla then put on your own. Since the PLA will melt at the same temperature, it should still print equally. As long as it is the same diameter it should work. The xyz printer uses the chip to detect how much filament and what type of filament is being used. I dont think the jr has an optical sensor. Maybe this is worth a try…

You don’t have to re-spool the new filament. Just leave the old spool (with the chip in place) and feed directly into the feeder. I leave my new spool on the floor - although I could build a custom holder. As long as the filament feeds from below and moves easily - no problem.
I hate the chip - just sayin’

Does this really work Andrew? Thinking about buying a da vinci mini but only be alle to use the XYZPRINTING filament is holding me back a bit.

You do need the chip. So you do need to buy the filament from them. However I am current running with the white chip holder on the spool holder and my required filament feeding from a spool on the floor.

Not ideal - but…

I would like to know why there are wires leading to the spool holder - cus if that is where the RFID piece - maybe it can be spoofed on the spool holder itself.

Did you store the original filament correctly ?

Should be kept dry in a sealed bag to prevent moisture. Sounds like your filament may be damp.
