Ok so I just got my Da vinci JR yesterday and I plan on using off brand filaments. I wanna know if there is a way to bypass the chip that tells the printer to print and how much filament it has left. Now if I feed another filament while leaving the old chip in place would it not just tell the printer it is running empty and stop it from printing if so how can I bypass this or trick the printer so that i may use other filaments.
But to be honest i’m a 13 yr old with a Da Vinci 1.0 and I was able to flash it with minimal problems. But I can understand why you might wanna stay clear.
For the Da Vinci Jr the filament card says i have ran out of filament but i can still see there being a good amount still on the spool is there a way to fix this if so please help?
According to xyz, when I asked about it on mine, they incorporate extra filament for loading and for the little test strips it prints down one side before the main print. I’ve got 3 rolls of “empty” with varying amounts of filament left due to this
I am pretty sure that you can buy a spool of filament with the chip, unravel the xyz pla then put on your own. Since the PLA will melt at the same temperature, it should still print equally. As long as it is the same diameter it should work. The xyz printer uses the chip to detect how much filament and what type of filament is being used. I dont think the jr has an optical sensor. Maybe this is worth a try…
You don’t have to re-spool the new filament. Just leave the old spool (with the chip in place) and feed directly into the feeder. I leave my new spool on the floor - although I could build a custom holder. As long as the filament feeds from below and moves easily - no problem.
I hate the chip - just sayin’
