Excellent post, thanks!

I’d like to just add a critical distinction: Makerbot used to be a good brand. No longer. Avoid the 5th generation machines like the plague, and the brand in general if you value autonomy, ownership, and non-DRM consumables.

Excellent Bram! Thanks for sharing your data - hopefully everyone who is working in this space can also share. Then we could develop a large library of extrusion setups and settings mapped to results. As more of us start experimenting we could rather quickly discover some best practices for a wide r…

Care to share anything (designs, photos, etc.) of your extruding equipment? u/bramhallo has been posting the results of his work and experimentation in filament recycling, here. It’s clear from the comments on these posts that the community is really excited about this. So far however, there isn’t m…

It would appear I was being a bit too subtle: if you can provide your email, we can continue this discussion.
-
Perfect, thanks!
-
You’d help yourself out by providing a line of communication. Your hubs page has no contact option - I doubt that people would want to post links to copyrighted material here on 3D Hubs.

Excellent idea, thanks!

Thanks for the link! I have run across this before, and the general idea is the same but… It’s ugly, unstandardized, unintuitive, and massively incomplete (there are pictures for about half of the issues listed). This is not to blast the product or the RepRappers who contributed to it. It is to hig…

Nikki, I hope to! But I need the community’s knowledge, experience, and support to do so. I don’t even know the true cause of many 3DP issues - I’m still pretty green. Hubbers: Post up images with an ‘issue’, what it is called, what causes it, and how to fix it. Once we get a good collection, I’l…

How do I take off this /Makerbot tag that I never added to the post? This post is NOT about Makerbots NOR their particular issues. (I just happen to have access to a Rep5). This post is about diagnosing 3DP issues.
-
Oh ho ho, I’m following the suit - which, by the way, has NOTHING to do with users/consumers. Stratasys investors only. I’m also aware of 3DS, but that all misses the whole point of this: to compile a dictionary of common print ‘errors’ and their solutions. The particular examples I posted don’t re…

It can be really frustrating trying to figure this out - especially as most of us are physically scattered and don’t find ourselves in daily proximity with other 3DP enthusiasts. Being the most knowledgeable person in the room/organization when you barely know anything is a pretty good motivator fo…

Howdy Hubbers! I’d like to develop a handy tool for myself and anyone else getting into 3D printing. As we all know, the 3DP world is a tangle of rabbit holes that can be very confusing and difficult to navigate. We have a group who are learning/teaching ourselves and each other how to 3DP. We are…

Thanks again for the good work!

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! I suppose that I have one final clarifying question regarding this statement, “However it might be the case that still even well mixed materials perform different than homogenuous materials.” I have been assuming that you are recycling prints of the same mat…

Hi again, Thanks for the in-depth reply! This kind of detailed thought-process is exactly what I was hoping to encounter in your recycling post series. Not having actually used any of these devices myself (yet!), I’m sure there are aspects of the process that I am imagining/visualizing inaccurately…

Hi Bram, Keeping up the good work with these posts, I see! I would like you to clarify or elaborate on this statement from Step 1: Collecting Material. “However other aspects such as the infill percentage and layer height might also play a role.” What sort of role, and how was this determined? I …

+1

I will be sure to share my experience once I get my hands on one! I also agree with several of the other comments suggesting the ability to somehow display (on 3D Hubs) to customers the fact that a Hub is using recycled filament. Perhaps we could add filament production as another service that Hubs…

Excellent post!

Can’t wait to see the rest of Part 1 (and see what machines you are using - I’m about to order a Redetec Protocycler)!

Excellent, thank you! (Especially as I’m not that deep into social media anyways…) My offer to host a Meetup at Colgate (centrally located in CNY) will remain open for the foreseeable future. I’m getting ready to host an info session for students here, and my boss is eager to support these kinds of…

Thanks! I hope we can get something going here.

And I forgot to post the link: https://www.3dhubs.com/talk/syracuse-ny

For those of you who joined this community for lack of a better option (some of you in Syracuse), we now have a 3D Hub Community for Syracuse. Come over and join your local printers! https://www.3dhubs.com/talk/syracuse-ny
-
Are any CNY-3DHubbers interested in a meetup? If so let me know - I can host @ Colgate University (Hamilton, NY).
-
PSA: 3D Hubs now has a CNY / Syracuse community! If you joined Rochester for lack of a better option, think about coming over!

Thank you for setting it up @toymaker2!
