I enjoy different types of projects that typically involve circuit design, mechanical design, CNC machining, 3D Printing, basic carpentry, motorcycle customization and general fabrication. Occasionally I find time to document projects on Instructables http://www.instructables.com/member/MidnightMaker/

I have printed hundreds of different parts on my DaVinci 1.0A and 100%of them with the stock firmware and XYZWare. The machine is central to rapid prototyping efforts for my home business. That’s the good part - machine is reliable and I actually like the simplified “no mess no fuss” approach to pri…

It could be an STL file problem. This website will repair the STL for you for free: https://tools3d.azurewebsites.net/

IBM and I’m sure others are pouring money into this research: http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc\_id=1322091 You have two major problems doing this today as a home user. The resolution of the best 3D printers is orders of magnitude larger than the spacing and size of modern chip level componen…

Sorry … Double posted

The thing to be careful of is the glass transition temperature of the material you use. This is the temperature at which the plastic goes from rigid to rubbery (not sure if rubbery is a scientific term but it fits what happens!). The two most commonly extruded desktop plastics are PLA and ABS. PLA …

repetier uses the same slic3r you install. I use slic3r to generate code for my XYZ DaVinci. The stock XYZ slicer does a poor job with narrow sections so slic3r became the tool of choice. I have used others but once you get the hang of slic3r, you stick with it! You can use slic3r independently of t…

Anything that involves motorcycles automatically becomes more fun! The added benefit is that it now becomes a company vehicle with possible tax advantages depending on where you live. But, seriously, this is a good idea.

Slic3r is very common and works very well. There’s a list of 3D related software here: https://all3dp.com/best-3d-printing-software-tools/

Hi Christian, not the answer you were thinking of, but when I think of all the time/money I have wasted creating PCBs, the best way for me is to use an outsourced service. Milling boards on a CNC machine is a real pain and consumes a huge amount of time. The printer toner transfer method works well …

Hey Phillip, I’m local and can model and print the design for you. Contact me through my hub at https://www.3dhubs.com/raleigh/hubs/deon

The only reference I could find to this problem is here: Anyone using windows 8.1 and stock software?:1865 - General - Da Vinci Printer Owners - Groups - Thingiverse Right near the end of the thread the OP removed the USB drivers and went through a re-install. This may be a clue that the USB driver…

Elmers glue stick works well. Don’t bother with hairspray for ABS.

I print a lot of ABS. You must use glue. Before every print, use a damp cloth to clean the glass surface. Then dry it properly. Apply glue stick where the object will be printed as well as the test strip. Without glue, your part will come loose during printing and you will have a big blob of plasti…

The company I use is PCBWay.com The smallest hole size they do is coincidentally 200 micron! Just make sure your gerber design has no plating on the holes or your holes will be undersized! Boards are shipped via DHL Express. I have had boards back in my hands within 5 business days of ordering. Q…

In that case, I would avoid 3D printing. If you need the part stiff, then 1mm thick FR4 PCB material would work well. A CNC machine or laser cutter would be able to make this part for low cost out of a variety of materials. In fact, if you are not averse to using FR4 PCB material, you could design t…

For strength, ABS is a good choice. Printing holes that small is a challenge and will require some iteration to get them just right on the printer. The best thing to do is to print the part to nominal and then run a 200 micron carbide drill bit through the holes. This reaming process will ensure con…

+1 For OnShape. It’s very good. If you know Solidworks, Cubify or Geomagic, you are already ahead of the learning curve. Otherwise it’s very easy to pickup and there are tons of resources developed by OnShape to get you up to speed. Minimal computing resources required - as long as you can run Chrom…

I have no idea. I have experienced the same thing on my DaVinci 1.0. I too would be grateful for a solution! I tried a new roll of abs in a different color but still experienced the problem. I tried 30% fill and 50% fill with no luck. I’m using the stock XYZWare and DaVinci firmware. Interesting t…

This is a really painful situation that has occurred to me in the past on my XYZ DaVinci. What happens is that the cartridge serial number is not registered in the XYZ Database. When the XYZ software starts a print job it checks the remote XyZ database over the Internet to validate the cartridge. In…
