I really hate to bash companies but I would strongly NOT RECOMMEND XYZPrinting to anyone! They have TERRIBLE customer service, WORSE THAN COMCAST!
A little back story.I bought a XYZPrinting Da Vinci 2.0 Duo last Christmas. I have got to admit for the price of $650 it was a great buy! I actually up to 3 months ago would have recommended a XYZ printer.
SO my printer started having issues with the heated bed heating up. I contacted Customer Service in California and a few days later they replied to my time ticket saying to post proof of purchase, I posted the purchase receipt minutes after their fist reply. a few days later they reply that with a video to check to wiring that I may have disconnected wires. I am quite literate with 3d printers and already tried all the connections. Problem remained, I contacted them again and they said they will send me out a new heated bed to try, 3 days later they send me a message with the tracking number, 5 business days later I receive the bed and find out they sent me the bed for the 1.0, (the bed is about 2 inches to large). I message them and tell them the problem and they “kindly ask you to send the print bed back to us and purchase freight.” (I am selling the bed on Ebay if anyone is interested.) They send me the correct bed after about 7 days, problem is still remaining! I know at this point all that needs to be done is the firmware needs to be reflashed.
They say the only fix is for me to send them the printer and again ask me to kindly pay for freight ($150 across country) so I fall for it this time and send it. They say they will notify me when they receive the printer, 2 days after UPS notified me that it was delivered I had to repeatedly message XYZ to get a confirmation they received it. After about a week of no response I called them and theytold me they will look at the printer tomorrow that they will update me tomorrow, of course no response so I call and get the same answer. After 2 more weeks of calling daily, they know my case by my first name now, they send out my printer. I receive the printer in worse condition then I sent it to them, plastic is chipped and broken and the carriage is completely broken in multiple spots. They claim its my problem until I threatened to sue them because the printer is under warranty and they kindly send me a shipping label to send the printer back to them. They said they would send me a new printer when they received mine, They received it 2 days ago and no response. I have messaged them twice and called 16 times with no response.
I’m agree with you ! I have two da Vinci 1.0.a and once past most time in holland for fixe it to my home. Now I try too print after MAJ and all result is a big ball of abs on extruder.
very dirty material, 10 time for one good print !
Next time I buy ultimaker or zortrax ! Better quality and free filament!
I understand your frustration. My experience is very different because I did not have to make use of their customer support, so I can’t comment on that part. I can however say that the printer is good value for money and once I circumvented the necessity of using their cartridge system, there is little I had to complain about.
I agree, XYZ customer service is not very helpful and slow, like waiting for grass to grow. Their replacement parts are ridiculously expensive. They do build a decent entry level printer. It is relatively easy to use. With sort of intuitive, but very restrictive software. Being enclosed is good for printing ABS But…
I had a print come loose from the bed, globbing plastic all around the print head. Removing it pulled the thermistor from the heat block. As this was obviously my fault, XYZ only offered the complete print head for around $100. So I purchased 10 thermistors, on amazon, for $10, soldered it in, everything is good again.
If you can accept that the warranty is barely a warranty. It is mostly words to keep first time buyers happy. Then flash your printer with Repetier, use what ever filaments you want and print on.
Next time when you feel like upgrading, buy almost any other brand of printer.
Out of the gate, Geetech immediately sent me a replacement Z axis screw, from China, no questions. Then a couple months later they replaced a bad power supply. Although they did make me jump through hoops for a couple days, diagnosing it. But eventually sent one at no charge.
For less money, the GEETech Prusa i3 dual color, was fun to build, and tons more versatile. With little effort, you can change the print nozzle to something besides 0.4mm. I personally went all out. Printing a different carriage, and installed cheap knockoff, E6 print heads with bowden style feed.
I also own a Geeetech, hard to communicate because they are 12 hours ahead but I bought a delta and blew the board, didnt see the power supply switch (clearly my fault) and they offered to send me a new one for free. Wish XYZ would learn from their Chinese friends.
I purchased the chip. It had limitations. Like the preset default temps for PLA and ABS. It appeared you could change them in the bios program, but when the file loaded on the printer it was back to the default temps. After realizing the XYZ warranty and customer service, was all but useless. I flashed the printer with repetier and don’t have to deal with any of that now.
If you bought a davinci for its warranty or customer service, you didn’t do your research. As someone else pointed out, correct firmware does not “go bad”, but a firmware update can have issues and I think it’s even more likely that something on the board went out. Their warranty dept should have offered a new board, but since they didn’t even get the heatbed right, it’s entirely possible they would have sent you an incompatible motherboard (AIO, 1.0 vs 1.0a, etc) and I’ve heard of that happening.
Their business model is to sell these so cheap that there’s never room for shipping the entire unit back, and if you ever do, you HAVE to replace the packing material to secure everything in place, no matter who you send it with. It’s a good idea to do this if you’re putting this in your own moving truck. Sorry you had a bad experience, but aside from small repairs (x and y-idlers) you could buy two davinci’s and they would last longer than any other big name like the Taz or ultimaker, and still be half the price.
I can say the school I attend has 4 Makerbot 2xs and my Da Vinci has far outlasted those printers but those printers have been abused by people who literally have no clue what they are doing.
I will say that if you are looking for a plug-n-play just to produce knick knack and don’t possibly buying a new printer in a year then this is for you.
I used the chip resetter once and then flashed to repetier, havent looked back since. It performs better and has been my primary printer for the past couple of months as I repaired my Delta.
I am always puzzled by the paradox of people who buy the cheapest stuff around that are then caught completely off guard when they don’t get spectacular results. You really should have expected this, or at least not have been surprised by it… maybe you’ve learned a lesson for the next thing you buy.
It’s a lot less the quality of the printer. Its exactly what you should expect from spending $650. The company made Forbes so I thought they would be decent.
