Hi guys, I will try to print insoles with my new Sigma printer from BCN3D Technologies. I am looking for a filament with the following characteristics:

Elastic/Flexible with a good rebound (force to regain form after foot pressure)

Nice look and touch

Durable for intensive usage indoor and outdoor.

I have learned about the classic filaments like Filaflex and Ninjaflex (TPE based), and I have noticed that TPC based filaments has entered the market, but I have little knowledge about it. Do any of you have experience with TPC?

Are you aware of any new materials that could function in insoles?

Moreover, how about TPU? TPU is more wear resistant.

In addition, what hardness are you looking for? For example, I know that ColoriLAB will soon offer TPE Shore A 80 and 90 as well as TPU Shore A 90 and Shore A 105 (about Shore D 55 ) as hardness. Those 3D printer filaments will be available in many colors too.

What are your requirements? Any numbers?

Hi Nicoline, I have never thought there was much difference between TPE and TPU, but you are saying TPU is more resistant. That sounds interesting. By resistant I assume it also means it is more durably.

I am very confused about the Shore Hardness scale. In the 3D printing environment, people talk out Shore Hardness of A 75 being very flexible, but when you look at the durameter scale, then a shore hardness of A 75 is hard, as shown on the enclosed picture.

Hi plisberg,

I think that the shore hardness displayed for the filaments are at ~ 100 infill, they are more flexible otherwise.

This stuff would probably be ideal. I love experimenting with Kai Parthy’s filaments but unfortunately this one is only available in 3mm. I’ve been hoping they come out with a 1.75mm so I can try it out.
