I like how the rigidbot is expandable, but I want the plug-n-play usability of the series 1. While price is a consideration, reliability takes precedence. I’m also concerned about reselling if I buy something expensive.

Recommendations? Thoughts?

Hey @CaptainBisquick, basically the links you shared from our printer guide already include a sum-up of the community’s experience on those 2 printers. So there isn’t that much to add to it. You can always check the individual communities here on Talk, namely Type A Machines and RigidBot and see what other Hubs have shared. Hope this helps

I just printed the Marvin on my Rigidbot, and it looks better than the photo of Marvin on the Series-1 page. You’ll need to make some changes to the Rigidbot to bring the quality up however (e3dv6 hotend, smaller X and Y gears, better power supply, glass bed). Plan on an additional $200. The Series-1 does not have a heated bed so I wouldn’t want anything to do with it.

I’m a little late on this one, and I’ve sadly never worked with the RigidBot, but I work with the Series 1 all the time and it’s been really great. The only downside is that Type A Machines is a very small company halfway between start up and small business (which isn’t obvious from looking at their website or product) so their support can be fairly slow and it can take a while for them to ship replacement parts. Some parts I’m sure you can only get from them, but I’m sure many maker-minded people could find other vendors for a lot of things you could otherwise spend weeks waiting on. I’ve been printing on one of their printers for at least 2 weeks without any problems, most things that have gone wrong are more based on my gcodes than the printer itself. They also have a good warranty that will still cover the printer even after you make some of your own modification. Also the Series 1 Pro does have a heated bed, so that’s always an option. There have been a lot of improvements from the 2014 to the 2015 version.

Especially since I just wrote our social media policy for the employee hand book today, I’m morally (and from socially media policy) obligated to say that I do tech support for TAM, so if something goes wrong with a printer it’s easier for me to fix the issue quickly than it would be for most people, but I really do love the printers, especially the new 2015s, theyre super nice and quiet, and have a heated bed.
