Hi guys,

In the past, many of you reached out to us about the option of offering discounts to your customers, whether to attract new ones, encourage repeat business, or reward your best.

In our experience, discounts have proved to be an important tool for growth, which is why we want to offer you the option to use it as well with your customers.

So in order to better understand your needs, we put together this 3-minute questionnaire: This typeform has moved 3
If there’s anything else you want to add, feel free to leave a comment below.

Cheers,

Gabriela

Done!

But not sure what “Name the Number” was suppose to be… only allowed numeric input too…

Discounts should be editable…
Random discount codes of different % or $off for various promotions.
Forever codes for long standing customers, or customers who referr.

Time limited promos for holidays etc…

I completed the survey as well. Based on the questions, I’m not sure 3D Hubs understands what we’re asking for though (so it’s probably good you’re asking for our input!).

TLDR: I’ll take whatever I can get. But, to be as useful as it could be for driving business, improving loyalty, etc., we need multiple discount types and amounts.

Full Comment: I echo the comments made by @JATMN. We need to be able to edit them as necessary. I have use cases for 1-time use discount codes, codes that are good forever for a certain percentage off, codes that would remove the startup fee, but not apply any other discount, codes that are good for a set time period, codes that tell me where I was referred from (such as local groups I’ve done work for in the past), varying discount amounts for each, from a 10% referral discount to a 25% “Best Customer” discount, etc. Even manually discounting, by adding an “additional charge” for a negative amount could work if a customer mentions a key word, or the name of the person referring them.

Thanks for working with us on this!

I fully agree with @Hartatak62 especially the last part… Adding “additional charge” or discount manually is a must… Discount for inconveniences or delays or word of mouth discount. “mention you saw my youtube video” or whatever…

Half these questions made no sense. Name a number? Ok, 64… And why did you want to know any of this?

Just allow us to make coupons, set time periods and percentage or value and the coupon name

Edit: now that I have a minute to add some more thoughts I’m going to do so.

After taking the survey I feel like you have no idea how coupons work from the retailer side. Just go make a free Volusion or any other ecommerce account and look at the options they provide. That’s exactly what we need. You don’t need to create any new system here like you have had to do with pricing or whatnot. There is already a tried and true method for coupons and it’s all we need.

Most of the things you were asking in this survey shouldn’t matter to you. You don’t need to know what percentage we want to give or why we want to give it. You just need to add the platform for us to manually enter in those options.

I really get the feeling like your current idea is to add a really narrow set of parameters for us to work in. Something like only allowing us to check boxes for 5%, 25% 50% off. No. Just give us a blank text box where I can type in 69% off if I want to.

Hi @gabriela3d,

I’ve completed the survey.

Maybe you can think of rephrase some question.
Its not always clear what you ask.

Eitherway, I think its great 3D hubs is considering to give hubs more freedom in setting up our own price system.

Hi everyone, first of all thanks for taking the time to go through the survey

And secondly, let me reassure you that no one is planning to reinvent the wheel here. There are plenty of 3rd party platforms that deal with discounts, and do so very well, so there’s no need for us to develop anything in this sense. We do however want to understand a bit more about your discounts needs and, even though this survey was not a great one, in a weird way it met it’s purpose.

Allow me to clarify few things:

  • There’s no plan to make discount amounts/ percentages fixed for everyone. The examples are orientative, as in our experiences, some percentages worked better than others.
  • The examples mentioned were a mere attempt to identify which type of discounts you consider a priority. Thanks for the list @Hartatak62 @JATMN, it’s very helpful
  • The now infamous ‘Name the number’ questions was triggered by filling in the Other field of the previous question. I have to apologies for this, it somehow slipped in the final version!

Thanks again for taking the time to do this. I’ll take your notes, discuss them with my colleagues and we’ll come up with a solution that better serves your discount needs.

Cheers,

Gabriela

I know Gabriela and the team at 3D Hubs team will be working hard to resolve all your questions but in the mean time I HAVE A ALTERNATIVE you can offer students. YOU CAN OFFER STUDENTS 15% off their order with code 8XXPA7FWAV.

This is a legitimate code that will not deduct form the Hub.

If you have any questions I can or Gabriela can answer.

So it’s been 4 months, any word on discounts? I would love to be able to offer them. First to family and friends to encourage them to use my hub, but I’d like the chance to reward frequent customers. I’m trying to figure out a way I can offer some kind of 50% discount to facebook friends without just dropping all my prices to the basement. There is the issue of perceived value… Price something too low, and it must not be worth much… But an introductory coupon… That would be something. I’d even be willing if you structure coupons such that the fee to 3D hubs is not reduced, just the reimbursement to me.

Any news here @gabriela3d ?

I can give you a real life example here.
I’m about to start co-operate with a company designing a product, I’ve helped them with printing prototypes but they want me to be able to send their customers to my hub for printing it. In this case it would be great if I could create a coupon for that company COMPANYNAME2017 for example, that they can give to their customers, and this will give them a 20% discount on my hub.
