I have recently started having a problem with my layers splitting while printing on my Da Vinci 2.0a. It only happens when I use abs. I use Simplify3d. I have adjusted heat and all, the printer is even mostly sealed to stop as much heat loss as possible. What should I do?
The options are to make the layers adhere to each other better, which depends a lot on the particular ABS you’re using, or make the environment around the model hotter. I’ve pointed a small electric heater at print jobs in the past with good success, though you don’t get much control. I’ve also heated the whole room to near 30 deg. Ideally though, if you can, try fully enclosing the printer and stick a little thermometer in there to keep an eye on the temp. If it gets up past 40 degrees I normally won’t have any issues.
Model design is another factor that plays a part. Long straight walls and sharp corners usually make the splitting worse.

The printer is almost completely closed, just small cracks. I never thought about it but the weather has been very cold lately.
Yup, that would do it. I used to have problems in winter too until I closed my printer in.
1. Check that the fan is off.
2. Check the filament diameter is correctly entered.
3. If none of that works, slow it down.
I have no idea. I have experienced the same thing on my DaVinci 1.0.
I too would be grateful for a solution! I tried a new roll of abs in a different color but still experienced the problem. I tried 30% fill and 50% fill with no luck.
I’m using the stock XYZWare and DaVinci firmware. Interesting that you experience the same thing with different software.
Install opensource firmware so you can use other filaments, buy T-glase or Petg and you will start to live for the first time in your printing life. Very little warp, absolutely no layer delamination, prints at 230-250c, stronger than abs, no smells or vapor.
What do you do when the nozzles ware down? Since you can’t replace the nozzles without replacing the entire unit.
I’m using Simplify and upped the temp to 230. Tried 225 as well and both make a big difference. I also adjusted the multiplication factor for the print head (can’t remember the proper term atm) to 1.05 as someone suggested on Voltivo.
Another strategy could be playing with bed temperature. Try setting it to 120C for ABS.
What repeiter version do you use for a 2.0a. .92 only works for the old one
I use .92. I don’t think I have a 2.0a but I forget. I bought it a little more than a year ago. I have 2 cooling fans
The blue model is 2.0a. Did you follow any video in particular? I have heard the boards are different between the old and new 2.0
I wish I had saved the walk through I used. It wasn’t a video I just googled “davinci duo repeteir firmware” or something like that. Sorry I can’t be more specific.
The short version of it was you short out a jumper on the board in the back (J23 I think) to wipe the firmware. I got the Repetier .92 build from a git hub repo. I used the Arduino IDE to upload the new firmware to the printer. I guess the printer is basicaly run by an arduino because thats what shows up when there isn’t any firmware running.
Hmmm, I have seen blogs and stuff that talks about flashing but I read in a a couple places that the 2.0a board has to be shorted on a different jumper than the original
