I try to get the license to print Fairphone cases. Therefor I need to print a case.
But how to print them? Is it better to print them vertical? But then I would need a lot of support material right?
Greetings

yes print it vertical - no support needed. You should have received an .ini file for Cura with th ecorrect settings. Even if you use a different printer the settings are a good point to start.
good luck,

Indeed, print it straight up, I had to print one for a customer and was confused about it too, but it worked pretty well.
The only downside to vertically printing them is the fact that the layer orientation doesn’t help stability. Tell your customer to remove / apply the case with care.

Thanks for your answers. But I don´t get how I can print them without support material. Because there is always an overlapping part at the top which needs support material, doesn’t it?

again: it prints *without* support - trust us

Haha, OK. I am going to print it vertical. Without supports…

I print them upright, but I do use raft ans support, just to make sure it completes, however the supports are only in the holes…
Got another order to print tonight.

Always trust people with a “_4” suffix to their names
The print is made so the overhangs print without support. Your printer needs to be up for the job though, meaning it can print extreme overhangs. If you don’t have a fan, that would be bad.

The holes print almost perfectly without support, using ABS. Maybe one layer will sag a little (easily filed away)

indeed vertical. As a final tip I would rotate 45 degrees on the printing bed plane so you have a 45 degrees angle relative to your fans. This will make sure the fan blows nicely past the edges, dramatically improving the results on my Ultimaker 2
