Yes but you have to do a lot of customizing and put repetier host firmware on your machine. Google Davinci 1.0 e3d v6 hot end to learn more. Thingiverse has the holder files for the hot end.

Yes it can actually. There is a great video series on you tube which shows every step of the process. You will need to flash your Da Vinci though.

Here is a playlist I made with all of the videos. null - YouTube 138

I’m doing a dual e3d v6 hotend swap on my Da Vinci Duo this weekend. I flashed it to use Repetier I don’t know how long a go but it is SOOOOOO much better than the XYZWare. Plus you don’t need to use their filament. I don’t know about J-Head but I know it has been done on the 1.0 with a E3D V6. Ethanleep put a link to the viedos that I saw that I am using to do my upgrade.

the j-head appears to be the same as the e3d v6 just as a cheaper copy

Like everyone is saying. Flash it with Repetier. I would do that first, and get comfortable with the controls for a few prints. Then change the print head. Each upgrade makes the printer better and more versatile.

Swapping the print head is an afternoon of fun, if you enjoy tinkering. Just make sure to print your parts and that they fit well, before disassembling the factory print head.

Purchase the printhead, with the bowden fitting. and teflon tube. You can use a short piece of the teflon as a filament guide between the feed rollers and the inlet into the print head. If if fits right, you can use ninjaflex and other soft exotics like PVA.

I watched the videos and I have 1 question. Do you really need to put repetier on your machine to do his swap? At the end of the day you still have to use the board from the Davinci extruder to make the e3d v6 run so why do you need repetier host?

Yes you do have to. The reason why is the extruder does not fit perfectly so you have to add a z-offset to compensate for the extra room added by the extruder. Otherwise it wouldn’t print properly. I do highly recommend switching to repetier host. It is so much better than the stock firmware. It gives you a lot more freedom and you can use any filament you want. Before I flashed it I was sceptical but now the only regret I have is not switching earlier.

I can use any filament I want with my machines running Xyz firmware. I can also control bed temps. Those are always the biggest 2 reasons I’ve heard to swap.

Cant me you just compensate with the leveling of the bed or using the jog mode to reduce the z offset or is the z offset so drastic that those 2 methods won’t work?

I’m not sure if those would work but I may be able to 3d model a small clip that compensates for the z offset. Let me check it out
