Looks like a Bowden extruder to me. That’s a design where the extruder drive is separate to the hot end, which is in the print head. Makes for a much lighter head for lower inertia

you only have to load filament into the extruder - as you’ve done, and then extrude enough filament that it comes out of the hot end.

You our might well need quite different retraction settings to a normal extruder.
