Hi all,
I am very new to all this, I only got my printer yesterday and have not even printed anything yet. I have been spending my time reading posts and today leveling the print bed.
I tried to load the filament I got with the printer (PLA) I select the option to load the filament on the Left Extruder and it gives me the message that it is heating up the print head. After about 5 minutes I hear a beep and I get the error: My Motor timed out after 5 minuets. Press M to exit
Has anyone seen this before? if so is there a way to fix this?
The main print head is the right print head on the CTC
Sounds like it is getting to temp and waiting for you to feed the PLA but timing out when nothing it fed.
You should get a musical chime when the head is hot enough to feed the PLA into the hot end. How far is the temp bar in the LDC getting across the screen during the heating process?
Hi,
I do get the chime when it reaches temperature, but as soon as it chimes it gives me the above error. I have stripped down the left print head and when I looked at the stepper motor the wheel on it (No idea what it’s called) was loose. I have tightened it up and will test again.
I have re-assembled the print head and ran the load again with the same result. After the print head heats up it chimes and then goes straight to the error message. I ran the load staright after this but it sat trying to heat up again for about 2 mins then same as before. Chimes then error.
Any ideas?
When you turn on the printer what does the LCD say? If I remember correctly mine said “The Creator 7.2” this is the firmware version, it is a good idea to update it to sailfish 7.7 or makerbot 7.5 for the replicator dual. Not replicator 2 or 2x just the replicator dual. If you are unsure of how to update the firmware do some research on YouTube or forums because if done in correctly you could brick the machine.
Do you get the same error loading the right print head?
If not, then the left print head may not be heating or the temp sensor may be faulty.
Not sure what would be wrong if they both do this…
Hi,
I have managed to get the filament to load. I have to pre-heat the print head then run through the load sequence. In answer to the question of what I see when I turn the printer on:
The Creator
Firmware Version 1.0
If I update to Sailfish will I be able to print Gcode files? as I am trying to work out how to convert to x3g and finding it a nightmare.
Unfortunately you will still have to print using .x3g files as all makerbots and makerbot clones only read specific files such as s3g or x3g not .Gcode.
Why do you find it a nightmare? There’s a command line utility called GPX which most slicers can be configured to use to convert GCODE to X3G automatically.
What slicer software are you using?
Hi I have been using Markerbot as it outputs to x3g and from there I can just print, however I did buy Simplify 3D. I have had a look and as it didn’t save to x3g I stopped using it. The onyl reason I bought Simplify 3D as I read a lot of people on here and other places saying it is the best software.
Is it possible to plug this GPX in to Simplify 3D and if so is there a thread/site with instruction on how to do this?
Simplify3D comes with it; if you go through the setup and specify your printer properly then it will automatically configure to use it.
You our will find that when you save GCODE files you get both the GCODE and also an X3G file too - this was created for you by simplify 3D
watch this video: Managing Printer Profiles | Simplify3D - YouTube
it will tell you how to redo the configuration.
I’m getting this error now as well, did you ever figure it out?
