  • Love this!! Haven’t had much metal printing experience yet, how did finishing process affect the resolution of the print with such fine details? (I assume the part was bead blasted or something similar to finish the part?)

  • Thank you for your help Johnsaen, Problem fixed! Luckily, in removing the nozzle (cold!), the filament came out with it. Then I just popped the nozzle in the oven at 210C and melted the filament and pushed that through the nozzle with some more filament, problem sorted! This was actually quite a ni…

  • Hi, thanks for the reply! My issue isn’t that the print failed. It’s more that I now can’t insert new filament into the extruder. I have tried retracting the extruder to try and get the last bit of filament out (of which there must only be a few mm). I can’t push that last bit of filament through b…

  • No worries, it’s a feature I think I just lucked upon when I needed more control. Haven’t tried simplify3D yet but have wanted to for a good while! Would be great if they offered a free trial…

  • If you hold down shift, you can get 1 degree increments  Control over infill patterns would be nice… pretty sure that’s a feature in simplify 3D

  • Quite interested in responses to this myself! I haven’t had chance to do much research into this myself yet but came across this post yesterday which seemed promising: Pi0drone: A $200 Smart Drone with the Pi Zero - Hackster.io uses a pi zero (£4 , $5) and an autopilot shield with opensource softwa…

  • This looks quite interesting! What’s the kit price including delivery to the UK out of interest?

  • I would be keen to know which “special” filaments are gaining in popularity. Colour would also be interesting. To be honest, I personally don’t think filament manufacturers/brands are all too important as we all have our own preferences anyways having invested time in getting our settings right for…

  • Great article! Very nice to see this sort of data collated and presented so nicely, good effort!

  • What a great project! And so close to being funded already! I really hope this takes off, such a great way to get kids interested in physically making things and coding (and then seeing the result of all of this in a fun interactive way). I would be excited to be able to print parts out for this in …

  • oh totally, FDM is the way forward for getting prototypes to a point where you’re happy with them. It gives you the freedom to iterate, which is the most important part of product design in my opinion… and to be able to do that quickly has completely changed the industry. And yes, 3D hubs does seem…

  • You’re comparing two completely different things, FDM and SLS are two completely different 3D printing processes. Shapeways offer mostly SLS which is a much more expensive process (and uses very expensive 3D printers). FDM is a much cheaper 3D printing method and lends itself nicely to desktop 3D pr…

  • Sadly I’m using a 1.75mm filament, that would have been great though, thanks for the offer. And right ok, I will consider the oozing when setting prints up with the metal filaments. I assume if the oozing cannot be controlled much, the best thing to do is to ensure you print fast enough to counter t…

  • Nice, happy to hear it isn’t a pain to use! Think I will get some of the stainless in and try a few test prints. Thanks for the advice and it’s always great to read through other peoples experience and to learn from their experiences… that’s been a lifesaver for me so far with my reprap, so I would …

  • Great finish! I’ve been wanting to try some of proto pastas filaments for a while, especially their metal filaments. Did you find it relatively straight forward to get good results with these filaments? And do you use their nozzles? Would be great to get some feedback on the metal filaments before t…

  • Great concept and definitely backed! Definitely feeling the wood material but also want to try the stainless steel PLA with this too

  • Another person without an unbiased view of things… but I have just assembled my first reprap (Prusa i3) and although I agree that the printer shouldn’t become the project, I do feel that in building my own printer I have learnt a lot about 3D printers (I am a product design engineer and have used 3D…
