I will get a ZYYX 3D printer soon and I was wondering if people already have first hand experience with this printer? I can’t find a lot of reviews but the ones i found were very positive.

Hey @Eddi, congrats on your new printer  We can’t wait for you to share your prints, experiences with us! @NickLievendag did a review of the ZYYX a while back. But maybe @DWojkowski or @Skydnet can share their experiences with the printer so far?

Thank you @gabriela3d. I saw the great review that @NickLievendag wrote. If someone else can also share it’s experience, I’m curious about printing with ABS and flexible without a heated bed.

Sounds cool  Can’t wait!

Yes. I am using a DaVinci 1.1 Plus. It’s a very good printer, easy to use and very professional. You can use most of the filament types even if the filaments cartridge are proprietary There are ways to unlock the use of these cartridges which makes the printer really open. I really recommend you xyzPrinting products.

Did you end up getting this one? It was one of the contenders on my list

Yes i got one. I used it and test it a lot so i get a pretty good idea of this machine. It’s surprising how the non-heated bed works. It is a sort of plastic coated glass so you don’t need to use tape, glue or whatever. PLA, Wood and flex sticks perfect to it. I tried ABS once but that sticks a little to good. I use my Zortrax for ABS so i didn’t test it again.

The machine is combined with Simplify3D. The special failed print detector is pretty useless so i switched that off. Another great function is the automatic calibration before prints, this in combination with the bed makes it a easy plug and play machine.

The print quality is good but not as good and easy as a Zortrax. Printing with flexible filament is very easy, I never had 1 jam.

Pro’s:

  • No heated bed, fast and energy efficient
  • Air filter
  • Easy bed adhesion
  • Very reliable extruder
  • Great software, Simplify3D (maybe a little to complex for some)
  • Easy controls
  • Closed print chamber
  • The best printer for flexible prints i ever tried

Con’s

  • No heated bed, ABS? (i need to test this more) ( I use Polymax PLA as a ABS substitute)

  • Print quality is not as good as a Zortrax

  • Failed print detector is useless in my eyes

  • Simplify 3D is not the easiest software

I used over 20 different 3D printers and this one is on my top 3 FDM machines.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Cheers,

Joury

Hi Joury,

Thanks for the quick detailed review! out of curiosity what are the other 2 machines in your top 3 FDM’s?

At the moment in torn between the ZYYX, Taz5, UM 2 or FF Creator pro

The Zortrax M200 was on my list but i scrapped it due to the propitiatory filaments… I see the benefit in terms of consistency but on the same not it seems limiting to be locked in to specific filaments. However if you consider it your #1 i may have to look into it a little more

I think that some practical experience can help you choose, try to find some shop or hub where you can see and test these machines.

The top 3 depends a little of your wishes. Try to get some samples and maybe a demo of the machines.

1. Zortrax. Very high quality prints, high build quality, very easy to use, limited settings in it’s software and limited material choice. Very good price.

2. ZYYX. Easy to use, Simplify3D, fast, reliable, many filament options, print quality is a little less than Zortrax. Good price

3. UM2. Fast, many filament options, portable, shity extruder, to expensive for it’s quality.

After 6 months of working with the ZYYX I’m convinced that this is a really nice machine. The easiness and reliability is a big pro. When i have a failed print it’s mostly a wrong setting in Simplify3D. I also love the closed enclosure and the air-filter. The machine is much more quit with the doors closed and i don’t smell the filament. I will get my new ZYYX+ in the coming weeks. This is the update version with a better build X-Y axis, better cooling and some tweaks in Simplify3D. I will post an update when I used it.

Hi @Rada3D

I wanted to know what has been your experience with the ZYYX+ now that some time has passed since you reviewed it.

I’m in the process of choosing a new printer and I’m hesitating between several models (ZYYX+, Witbox 2,etc.).

Did you had any issues,… ?
