Hi, I am new to the forum and new to 3D printing. I have a part I am trying to print, but am not having great results with the surface finish quality. I have the same results with PLA and ABS.

When I try to print the part on the build plate, there are zits all over the entire part.

When I try to print two parts on the build plate, the zits are only down the middle, everywhere else is perfect. Do I need to adjust retraction settings?

Try printing it with retraction disabled. Then post a picture so we can determine if your defects are caused due to retraction settings.

If that doesn’t solve it, you might have a problem with your extruder or nozzle (jam or clog).

Thanks for your response. I changed the length of the retraction from 6mm to 0. The results look the same. Any other ideas?

Please disable retraction fully, on the “Basic” tab untick “Enable Retraction”.

What temperatures are you using for the hotend for PLA and ABS?

PLA should print at 205-210C and ABS at 230-260C.

It would help if you could observe the printer while it’s printing (with the noticeable defects).

I suspect there may be something wrong with the extruder or hotend mechanism as mentioned before.

If you have a spare extruder or nozzle I would recommend replacing those parts and running another test print.

Hi,

I disabled retraction on the basic tab, and still have the same results. I am printing at 200C, which is the default setting within the app. I can really tell what’s going on when it’s printing. The printer is brand new and other parts print without this issue so I would probably rule an a part issue.

When I lower the “fill density” (currently set at 50%) down to 10%. It reduces the zits, but then the part is not as strong and I can crack it in my hands. Also when I set the “infill overlap” to 0 (currently at 10), it reduces the zits. Is there another setting I can change that would increase the overall strength?
