Hello,

Just powered on my A8 for the first time. I have it do all positions, x and y move and stop correctly. The z on the other hand goes down, hits the stop switch and keeps trying to go. I reset it and started it doing its position test, pressed the switch with my finger and it stopped as it should.

What i’m gathering is the switch is working fine, don’t know why its not stopping the motor when doing it on its own. I tried re positioning the motor up and down, still not actuating when it is pressed by the arm.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if the z-axis stops moving when you press the switch with your finger, then whatever is supposed to press the switch when the gantry is lowering isn’t doing its job. Can you see the part that’s supposed to contact the switch? It might simply need adjusting.

Yeah… had to tilt the z stop slightly! Thank you sir.

Know anything about extruders?

press print

extruder and bed heat up, says printing 0% and then the extruder just cools down, never starts printing. any thoughts on what I might be missing?

I have been looking around and the best answer I could find was a fuse but in that case it would not heat at all. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

That’s a tough one. (And I’ve only been doing this five months, myself.)

By-the-way, the piece with the nozzle is the ‘hot end’, and the gear drive that pushes the filament is the extruder.

Did you slice the gcode yourself? If so, maybe you can find a sample file already sliced for the A8. That way you’d know the model wasn’t causing the problem.

Its a test file that came with…

I powered down and powered back on then set pla preheat

gets to about 60 degrees and now says stepper disabled?

at one point it did get to 190 then just started to cool down, now movement, etc.

Shoot, that pretty much exhausts what I can suggest. Sorry!

may have figured it out, heat gauge, thermisistor i believe my be wrong, the shielding on the wire started melting, smoking, etc. Had they way too close together… that’s one problem down. Going to hook it back up and try again.

Yow, that’s not good. Once nice thing about these beasts is that the pieces are easily swapped out, though we end up with lots and lots of miscellaneous parts by the time it’s up and running.

haha… yeah, I have a few screws and washers laying around… I’ve double checked, they dont seem to be missing from anywhere.

The thermisistor is still working, so thats good, i did order some extras, should be here by tomorrow.

If i catch something on fire I will let you know!

if you’re still available with your knowledge!

doing test prints, they dont stick to the heat bed, they just keep getting pulled around… being poured too close to the heat bed?

Probably too far away. I had the same thing just yesterday.

Hi,

I had the same issue with my A8. Moving the z stop a little upwards solves the problem, as it may appear that you are pushing the switch correctly but it is missing some millimeter.

Hope that helps you.

chech the solder of the limit switch and the terminal on the board

Looks like I have a very similar issue.

The z-stop is about 1/8" away from anything that would touch it to stop it from moving down. I can’t see where I missed putting something together, nor can I figure out how the z-stop should be pressed.
