I have been having problems with slight z axis banding and layer inconsistencies on my homemade printer. I am certain that it is not z wobble as everything is 100% straight and true and the bands are not particularly in a constant pattern that follows the lead screw.
My question is, are these bands normal? and is there a way to get the walls more consistent to create a better finish?
Hello,
Check this:
- Filament holder runs smoothly so there is no upward force transmitted to the extruder
- There isn’t any gap on the mechanical parts specially on linear bearings and hotend attachment to the extruder.
- Check uniform filament diameter.
To be honest, these results are quite normal for DIY printers but can be fixed investing in proper mechanical parts without any gap.
Thanks for the suggestions, the filament runs smoothly. The filament seems good and the parts seem to have no gap.
Maybe its just the fact that i am using a bowden extruder which causes a bit of slop.

Yeah. A blower fan with a circular shroud.
