Looks like we’ve got a few XMachines users in here!

I’ve been printing successfully with my Lorei Duo for a while now, but I’ve had a hard time calibrating for holes/plugs. If I print with normal settings in Cura I’ll end up with holes that are too tight, and plugs that are too large, such that the plugs won’t fit into the holes.

The x/y accuracy isn’t off by much, about 0.2mm appears added to the skin on all surfaces. This results in a 0.4mm overlap between the diameter of the plug and hole, and so parts don’t fit together properly. This is within 3dhub’s FDM tolerances, so folks have been generally OK with it, but I want to do better.

Playing with Cura settings I found that I can artificially set the nozzle diameter large (e.g. set my 0.4mm nozzle as 0.55) and reduce the flow rate a small amount (80%-90%) which produces excellent dimensional accuracy, but it leaves the top layer incomplete (a gap between each line in the top surface resulting in a mesh appearance). This is acceptable for some prints, but clearly violates 3dhubs’ FDM guidelines.

Has anyone else had this issue and do you know how I might properly calibrate for this? I’m using the Cura engine in astroprint’s cloud slicer (I LOVE that service) but also have Cura 15.x and Cura 2 installed as backup options (though generally get better results from astroprint). Slic3r has largely been a disappointment so far, but I do have that on-hand as well.

Anyone have some advice?
