I am thinking of trying a wood filament. I know little about it at the moment. I have a QIDI TECH-1 and Flashforge Creator Pro in stock setups except for glass plates.

What brand etc. would you guys recommend I try? What initial tips advice do you have!!

Thanks!

I’ve been told that a .4mm nozzle will clog up so .5 minimum for the nozzle

My coworker has this brand and prints it at around 235C for his best result. (he clogged a .4mm nozzle lol)
Package says 175-250C
I haven’t tried mine yet. Trying to fix a banding issue still before I start printing with it.

I have a creator pro clone and print with hatchbox pla wood. It is my favorite filament to print with. Everything comes out looking great. I use the 0.4mm nozzle without any issues.

We have a Creator Pro and have really enjoyed using the BQ wood filament on Amazon - at the moment it’s the cheapest out there. Works great but more likely to block up your nozzles than pure PLA or ABS. We’re currently playing with some Filamentive samples and the prints we’ve done so far are quite good. The smell is beautiful too, like when you do some real woodwork  You have a glass bed? If so, you should put some blue painters tape on it and glue stick or hairspray. Treat it like PLA but print slower, like 30mm/s at 205°C and see how it goes. Up the speed and temperature as you become more comfortable.

Looks like the BQ won’t ship to the US.

NO LONG BULLSHIT

USE: LayWood Any Type Of LayWood

Have you looked at Polywood by Polymaker? PolyWood – Polymaker

This has a wood effect but without any actual wood particulate matter to cause clogging/blob issues and prints extremely well. The filament is a little more expensive per kg however with the density of .8grams per cm3 vs 1.25-1.3g/cm3 of standard PLA it goes a long way…

I personally use this for printing “wooden wands” (harry potter elder wands" and “wooden coasters” as giveaway and promotional items; everyone is always intrigued and material seems to hold up well. (unless casting fireballs…)

Ah, well I think you guys in the US have much more choice than us here in the UK

I use Hatchbox. It works great. Not as britale as some other woodfils I’ve used.

Never had that issue before.

Thanks for all of the great info.

My primary recommendation is to increase retraction and slow down your print.

ALso, there is a gcode utility that changes the temperature at random, that adds to the realism of the wood print, but I can’t seem to locate the link!
