I’ve searched pretty much all over for a place that does 3D scanning. I simply would like my project scanned into a .stl file. I’m a student and I feel like all of the places I’ve come across and received quotes from are ridiculously overpriced, charging a minimum of $150+ (my project is 13.5cm x 6.5cm x 4cm (Length x Width x Height)).
Can anyone recommend a cheaper place where I can get something scanned into an .stl, or if there’s any other alternative I’m open to finding out. I’m at my wits end!
Hey @ItsHamzar! You should be able to find smthg in NYC.
What exactly are you trying to 3D scan? Is it made of reflective material? transparent surfaces? That would increase prices if so (harder to capture).
Depending on the level of detail you need and the kind of object you want to scan, you can get a rough idea by 3D scanning yourself > try Autodesk recap for example (free to use). It processes photos of your object into a textured 3D mesh.
Hey @ItsHamzar, two low cost alternatives you can try are Autocad 123D Catch and ReconstructMe. 123D Catch works by stitching together a series of photos into a 3D image. It can be tricky, but with patience you can get good results. ReconstructMe would require a low cost scanner, like an Xbox Kinect from the 360 with a USB adapter. They are sold at Gamestop for $15.
