We’ve got a fair sized community and this nice talk feature, lets get to using it!
I’m going to start off with a little introduction, my name is Mike. I have a self built/sourced Rostock MAX V2 from SeeMeCNC. The frame is made from lasercut birch, so it is a truely unique machine. I’ve been in the RepRap scene for around 2 years now, I started working on a SeeMeCNC H1.1 owned by a member of the DSM Makerspace, and I’ve worked on numerous printers since (Prusas, Ultimakers, a few Makerbots, several Rostocks and Kossels). I’m an advocate for the Open Source 3D printing community, meaning that any design improvements I come up with or any advice I learn I’m willing to give back to the community. If any of you all would like some help with your printer or are thinking of getting one I would love to help out, be it with maintenance, troubleshooting, selecting a printer, or printing parts for a RepRap machine.
Anyone in the immediate Des Moines area I would recommend trying to make it to the Area 515 Makerspace open houses on Tuesday nights (generally starts around 6 or 7). We more recently moved into a nice new building at 1731 Grand Avenue. Check it out!
Good evening… my name is Ryan… I am only about 6 months in to the 3d printing world. I own a rostock max v2, and a flashforge creator pro. Right now my stock is not getting much love. Just seems to have issue after issue getting quality prints from it, where as the FF is rock solid each and every time.
Hello all, my name is Garrett and I had no idea how many printers were just in Des Moines, let alone a community. I have recently made 3d printing and scanning a full time in an attempted to corner a market but it appears I missed the boat a bit but who cares! I would love to get more information about the makerspace because that sounds like an amazing group. As for me after getting out of the Marine Corps I got my first printer which was an original printrbot. I have since upgraded to a printrbot simple metal, a metal plus and a Rostock Max V2 along with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science which makes it all the more fun.
So im finding out that more than anything the printing issues im seeing with the rostock is the banding, which I do think is a metric of a delta printer trying to do a straight line… My main print job right now has me making 8 inch x 5 in x 1.5inch tall things, which is basically rendering my rostock useless… that banding is just not professional.
other than that, its just a bit of boogering etc, which im sure is a cooling/retract issue.
i actually kind of forgot about it the last couple days… i finished a job that had my printers going 24/7 for a month, so now im kind relaxing ill get cookin here again soon. i just ordered the tricklaser arms… ill post results
Hey guys… just testing the waters… Anyone local interested in a max v2 with a few upgrades?
1. 3 layer fans (from Seemecnc) (one in each location) for perfect cooling of PLA, Bronzefill etc.
2. Tricklaser arms
3. Peek fan of course.
4. Extra sheet of glass (from Seemecnc)
5. Sheet of PEI connected to one of the pieces of glass.
I figure i have
$999 -kit
$35 - glass
$36 - layer fans
$10 - peek fan
$20 - PEI
$80 - tricklaser arms.
So just shy of $1200 in the printer. I can provide pictures of TONS of prints ive done with it, included the TREX skull and others
here are a few
Even got some softer filaments to work (ill include an extruder that i ordered online. works pretty well).
I think I need to look in a different direction. I have had steady enough work with this printer (can only really do 1 part at a time , they are big) where as I need to increase my build volume.
Anyone in the Des Moines area interested in my printer?
Probably looking in the 850-900 range, which ive researched, with the add ons etc is really fair.
is there any interest locally? before I go broader to see whats out there?
