So I have a new problem with my wanhao i3. Once in a while it does this:

I don’t understand why it does that, it seems there is nothing wrong with my end stop. In the next video I’m moving the bed with my hand, and it doesnt look like there is anything that is preventing the end stop for working:

I checked my belt and it’s not loose or really tight, it’s medium I guess.

Any ideas what is causing this? Is it a mechanical thing or rather software?

The end stop SWITCH! It’s a little thing that sends stop command to motors that clicking when bed reached it. Check it out! http://wanhaousa.com/products/end-stop-switch

BTW moving the bed with such fast manual movements is not the very best idea i think…

Could be a loose cable somewhere keeping the motherboard from detecting the endstop.

Hi,

Everyone has said the same thing just about. End Stop. And it appears that it is your problem. You need to contact Wanhao and show them that video so that they can send you another end stop. And help you further. Or as previously mentioned the end stop are cheap and you could purchase another one online…I know it is frustrating. but take your time to swap out an end stop preferably from x axis and swap it out with the y axis. You dont want to swap out the z axis one cause your hot end will damage you bed. See if that swapping of the end stop will now show that issue with the x axis. What is technically happening is that the end stop switch may be working but it is not communicating. Wires are bad or torn, loose wire on end stop etc. etc.

This is not happening every time I try to home the Y axis. It happens some times. I tried to check the cables on the back and made sure none of the caples were stuck somewhere. I also unplugged the end stop contact and plugged it again so I made sure it was plugged in correct.
I tested it a couple of times and the end stop have worked since. If the problem happens again I will follow your advise and use the x-axis cable for testing or send the video to wanhao as you suggested.

For me it seems the problem have happened every time I have killed the steppers, I do this if I have to calibrate my bed or remove my glass plate. From now on I will use the steppers for moving the axis, to make sure the killing of the steppers isn’t the problem.

OK, that sounds good. What I suggest you do when working with your bed is move axis 1mm Z upward to about 100mm. Everytime . this will allow you to do a variety of things, work on bed, spray hairspray throughout bed, and preheat hot end and bed allowing you to remove melted plastic prior to leveling. Good practice that helps me a lot. I guess for me now it is a routine. I try not to disable steppers even while leveling cause they tend to sag more than intended. Great job, looks like you are on the right track
