In my ongoing exploration into how these two topics crossover, I’ve asked myself the question “what would a VR 3D printed item show room or store look like?”
The answer is simple… ANYTHING!
What I am about to reveal is a proof of concept in showcasing a line of jewelry, designed for a past Fashion themed 3Dhubs Boston Meetup, within the social Virtual Reality worlds of VRChat.
Using the free Unity5 Game engine, I have created these virtual worlds and I encourage you to download the VRChat client and visit them yourself for the full effect.
The following 360 panoramic images can be viewed on your desktop, mobile screen or VR HMD.
TORTON: a massive starship inspired by the “Mother Turtle” creation myth. Designed to showcase a “Turtle Glyph” jewelry piece.
Terra 3D Prints: a unique neolithic space designed to showcase a set of jewelry pieces.
3DPRINTVR Kiosk: a triggered event attached to my avatar that spawns an actual 3D print stand around my character in any VR world I visit!
The most recent development has been 3D printing the worlds themselves. The TORTON world we actually traversed the other night can be downloaded and printed TODAY!
Stay tuned for more of this project as it evolves!
CALL TO DESIGNERS: I would love to talk to more established 3D print object designers about designing and building VR show rooms or avatar kiosks for their work. I’m interested in a profit sharing business model and I have hopes that new 3DHubs functions will allow for local printing of models that are not hosted on public sites.
