This is an RC car that has been modified to be an RC boat using 3D printing. For when you want an RC car and a boat but can’t afford both! (and are a 3D printing nerd)

The idea behind it was to keep the RC car standard and just add parts to turn it into an RC boat, but the parts had to be removable so that the boat could be easily turned back into the car. As you can see in the video there are still quite a few tweaks to be worked out including better stability as it moves through the water. The electronics seems to be ok during and after the test.

All the purple parts are ABS with 3 layers and then acetone treated to ensure they are waterproof, the orange paddles are NinjaFlex. I did it to fit them over the existing wheels and tyres easily but it wasn’t really necessary.

Once I have some more time I hope to tweak it and modify it to make it much better and more ‘speedboat like’ albeit with paddle wheels. Let me know if there is anything you guys want to see and I’ll try and incorporate it or if you have any questions I’ll be happy to try and answer them.

Cheers

Haha Andrew, this is brilliant  Love everything from the name, to the hacky approach of turning something old into something fun and new! Happy to see we’re on the same wavelength here

Cheers Gabriela, in my mind it was a lot faster and more speed boat like. Better get to work making it more like my dream haha

Want to see the Toyrotor next! Drone/RC car. Great work

Thanks, funny you mention that I saw one for sale somewhere the other day! I’ll try and find it again, didn’t look like it would fly very well though. Then today I saw a flying swimming drone developed by NASA and someone else, the whole range is here haha

Found Skybota? http://www.vocativ.com/news/259629/this-awesome-drone-can-conquer-both-sea-and-sky/

Just put the files up here if anyone is interested in downloading them and having a look, cheers
