The Maker Chair Project

In December, to celebrate its 1st year, Makershop, the first French e-shop specialized in 3D printing, launched a collaborative project. The goal was to encourage a maximum of people to contribute to the creation of the completely personalized puzzle Bits & Parts chair. On www.bitsandparts.org it is possible to get « Creative Commons » licensed 3D files which allow infinite modifications. Thanks to this, each member received the 3D file of a piece of the chair on which his name was carved.

Project setting up

First, each member completed a form and specified which namehe wanted on his piece. When the member sent the form back, Makershop personalized the pieces and sent the member an STL file. The members then followed Makershop’s instructions for the configuration then started printing their puzzle piece on their own printer!

The 3D printer creates objects in 3 dimensions by building layers of plastic.Using this technique each member could print his own 3D puzzle piece in any color they liked.

Today, the Maker Chair is assembled. The members will be able to see the result through a video made during the set-up of the Chair. This colorful Maker Chair is a unique piece of art which gathers 3D printing passionate.

Each piece of our Maker Chair has the name of a member carved on.

It’s a chair composed of 77 pieces carrying the names of the 77 members.

To conclude, the achievement of this project allowed the gathering of numerous 3D printing passionate Makers. A great project fulfilled thanks to the involvement of many Makers.
