I would like to prototype a piece that will come into contact with boiling water for between 5-15mins. What 3D printing materials are safe to use at that temperature and are non toxic enough that the boiled water and anything in it are still safe to consume if required.

I think Taulmann Tritan should be worth looking at. Pick up a sample at…

Hey there, @AlexDick might be able to help with this. How about you @Francesco_P @Modellus @2052

@NikolaiK @martinv77 @MikeCur - have any suggestions?

Hi @mjfsutherland, @gabriela3d, @Pot8oSH3D

In fact, in the “2D” world manufacturing, we using PP (Polypropylène) for that case ( High temp & Food grade ).

Andy was right when he ask you about Tritan from Taulman, but there is a different by using real PP for 3Dprinting because is available here https://shop.germanreprap.com/en/pp-plastic-600g-3mm-black, but only in black color.

The best one: ULTEM 9085 ! But really expensive ( about 300 USD / KG ) and needed a professional 3Dprinter with enclosure and high temp print-bed (200 °c) and a 350°c Hotend… 2 Ways for Ultem 9085 3dprinting :

- The first : Using Stratasys equipment ( Expensive and not available on 3DHubs )

- The second : Ask with a 3Dsion AEP 3d printer owner 3disonprinter.com - This website is for sale! - 3disonprinter Resources and Information.

If you need 3Dprinted pieces for food safe using, you can ask me directly at Lugdunum’s hub.

See you

@Christian_CAD You prob know this

Unfortunately I have no true experience with materials that would fit the requirement. I have some good test results with ColorFabb XT http://colorfabb.com/xt#.VKa7S8ZjNXA which is also a foodgrade material in boiling water, but I have not had it submerged in the water for more than 5 minutes…

Yeah Andys hit the nail on the head can never go wrong with Tritan.

Taulman’s new Nylon PCTPE is dyed in boiled water - it does go a bit soft (slightly slack) but does not melt.

I think most nylons are food safe’ish

This new nylon prints really well on a non hb pritner with just pva glue - and it stains brilliantly before use and after so you can get really neat colours and tie die effect!
