Hi

Can anyone explain how could I get rid of some strange holograms that appear on my 3D prints (look at the picture for reference)

The printer is a homemade Prusa i3, I am printing PLA at 180°C and at a bed temperature of 60°C

Thank you in advanced

What software are you using? The holograms arent technically a defect, they have to do with the way the 3d printer travels when making the object. You can try a different software or maybe rotating the object.

The other thing you could do is invest in a sla printer, you won’t have this problem.

It looks like ringing to me. A prusa has the extruder on the carriage, wich makes the carriage heavy and a change of direction will not be “instant”. There will be some slack involved when changing direction rapidly because of innertia. This will give you the artifact you show. You could try printing slower or play with you jerk settings in the firmware. This is the exact reasing I don’t like direct drive extruders and like the bowden-style more.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll try to print slow and see where that gets me

I was kinda on a budget, so for a 130 EUR printer, it isn’t that bad…

Hmmm I am using Cura at the moment, ill try to use slicer to see if that helps, thanks

Actually, what your are seeing is quite normal on a FDM-printer. Even very expensive FDM-printer will often show this.

Like others said, it has to do with small vibrations in the printhead while moving.

You can slow down your print speed and lower your acceleration and jerk-settings.

But even then, chance is that this will not dissappear completely.
