Bought maker select V2 after using a friends (same one). Printing time is extremely slow compared to his, 2 to 4 times slower. I use the III3 included cura software, and have tried using cura 2.4 but nothing can reduce the print speed. Using the exact same settings as my friend with the same printer and cant explain why it takes so long. things that take him 40 minutes take me 3-4 hours, and its not just according to cura - they actually take that long to print. attached are 2 screenshots of all my settings, any help would be greatly appreciated!! thank you! -hunter

Your top and bottom speed as well as outer shell speed are really low you can at least double those and print anywhere from 30 to 40 mm/s

Also your retraction speed and distance may be too much, you can do 80 speed and 2 - 3 mm distance

Hi Hunter,

To ensure yours and your friend’s settings match completely, try printing a GCode file that they sliced for you. Alternatively, if your friend sends you one of their GCode files, in Cura, go to File>Load profile from GCode and choose their file. This will give you all the same settings they are using. If your print time still does not match your friend’s with the same GCode and the same printer model, this may be a hardware problem and you could try contacting Monoprice.

Hope this helps!

Dmitry

Thanks for the reply! I had him do that actually and it was 4 hours 23 minutes for me vs his 1hr 55 mins for him. We went over every single setting in every advanced tab and made them all match but nothing changes it

Thanks for the reply! I tried changing the distance and it only reduced by 10min or less. The print speed didn’t affect the time either for some reason

Does the print time estimate that Cura provides give you the correct value?

What I mean is, when you slice a file, does Cura predict that it will take longer than your friend’s, or does it predict that the print will be as quick as his, despite your printer’s actual performance?

Dmitry

I timed it with a stopwatch and the cura estimated time was within 1-2 min of accuracy. My cura est time is different than his despite all the settings. He created a gcode for me and we printed them at same settings starting at same time - his print took 40min mine took 1hr 55 min. No idea why it’s doing this

That is very strange. The fact that Cura gives you the correct estimate tells me this is not a hardware problem. Yet the fact that you printed using his GCode and did not get the same results tells me the opposite.

Are you using an SD card to print, or is your computer connected to the printer directly?

Dmitry

Currently still using the included SD card that came with the printer. Haven’t been able to run it directly because of distance from pc. I know he’s running it connected, could that be the issue?

It’s unlikely that this is the issue, but I would say it is worth a try anyway.

The most confusing part is the fact that Cura is somehow anticipating the slower print time.

I would also recommend to try setting up Slic3r to generate your Goode. A different slicing software may at least show if this is a hardware or a software issue.

Hope this helps!

Dmitry

Thanks! I’ll give it a try. I tried using the cura 2.4 software instead and that doesn’t fix it either

Having the same issue with slow print times and changing print speed barely affects the time. Did you figure this one out?

No I never did :frowning: I tried everything and no results. I’m going to contact monoprice and see what they say. Lmk if u fix it

Did anyone come up with an answer on this? My Maker Select is 3x slower than even my little XYZ DaVinci Mini. :frowning:
