I’m using mechanical supports in my model, but it turns out they add too much material. They are also much more sturdy and strong than they need to be. So, I’m wondering what shape has the best mechanical support and the lowest mass of material.

I’m currently using a hexagonal prism hollowed out with a cylinder and then I’ve also removed more material by removing a series of small cylinders down all six sides. I guess that would be three cylinders 1mm radius for each pair of opposite sides. And repeating the small cylinders down the length of the hexagonal prism.

Would a simple triangle/wedge have less material and the maximum mechanical support? Or maybe I should be looking at I-beams? I’m not a mechanical engineer so I’m lost.
