Hello fellow makers,

I am following up on a post I made 5 months ago about a proposition on recycling discarded printed materials and converting it back into filament.

With our new local startup ReFilaMe, the reality of providing local makers with quality recycled ABS filaments is coming together. We have recently been extruding natural ABS filament and will be testing natural PLA and various colors of both in the weeks to come. Along with collecting materials from local makers, we will only be purchasing recycled ABS and PLA pellets from sources in the United States.

We will offer ABS filaments for $18 and PLA filaments for $15. We plan on giving redeemable credits for the discarded material that you send in for additional savings. Check out our website www.refilame.com or the attached .pdf for more information about our recycling program. If you have questions about becoming an early adopter, please email us at production@refilame.com.

Thanks for your time and support!

Sincerely,

Dalvin Nichols

Looks promising and congrats to your new start-up! This could work within our design lab as we have amounts leftover unused from rolls of abs throughout the year - at the moment reusing them for minor print jobs on the smaller printers as needed but it’s not an ideal solution. I’m not sure about about the weight (per pound, per type and per color) would amount to too much material to recycle however aggregate it comes close… Personally I’ve been setting aside waste/support material 2-gallon ziplock bags with the intent to get a filament extruder in the next 6-8 months. If this method is streamline and the product is consistent that would be one less thing to have to try and work out on my own. It would be a bonus to be able to source direct from hyper-local company instead of blindly ordering online with product primarily made from overseas. Some more information is needed about the process, Q/A controls, equipment used and a few of the links on your website do not seem to be working at the moment (using Chrome browser)… Thanks for the info/update, Cheers, Lee.
