Hi all.

Am I missing something or is there no filament recycling companies i can send my used filament to in order to be recycled and either sent back to me or resulting in a deduction to any reels i buy from them? I’m a small business user so i dont have loads of waste but i really want to recycling it. Please could you direct me to anyone who does this please?

LOL if there isnt anyone, i may need to get myself a Filabot and offer the service.

Thanks in Advance

Emma.

Hi Emma, like you, I hate that my failed prints and other waste just goes into landfill, but I think trying to do anything on a large scale can be tricky because of quality control on the waste being delivered. If you’re recycling your own waste and therefore have a good control over exactly which filament “this” print is made from, that’s one thing, if you’re receiving bags of failed prints from all over the country, that might be another matter.

There’s a nice series of posts on recycling prints that start here:

and could be worth a read. I’m certainly interested in it, so if you think about taking it further, please let me know!

Hi. Yeah I’ve been looking into costs. It cost about £18 off amazon to get a 1kg reel of pla. Compare that with the time needed to recycle used pla (sorting types, shredding, combining with pellets, melting, reeling, postage) and the energy usage, I don’t think it would be cost effective. Plus there is the cost of buying a recycling machine and the space and man power needed to run it. I think the only way this would happen is on a large scale by a company already involved in 3d printers, that have the man power to do this with little time wasted. I just hate throwing my stuff away. I’m keeping it in separate bags based on type and colour. I know a place in Manchester called hackspace (https://hacman.org.uk/) They have 3d printers for the public to use. I’ve emailed them asking if they have considered this endeavour or know if anyone else has. May be worth you and others doing the same in your local area. I typed “3d printers for the public to use” in Google to find it. Let me know what you find out. I’ll keep u posted too. Emma.

Terracycle - Filabot 3D Print Recycling Partnership Discontinued Filabot Recycling Service It’s been a busy Monday at Filabot. That’s a good thing! Today we’re announcing a beta testing phase for our new Filabot Recycling Service. It’s another avenue for recycling prints for as many makers as possible. We’ve been crossing off check-list items, editing and developing the launch of this new service. The idea is simple: you’ve got failed prints, we’ve got industrial recycling capabilities, you send in your prints, we recycle them! Our Filabot Recycling Service Beta Testing Phase will completely and totally take PLA prints and turn them into filament so you don’t have to. It’s new, it’s innovative, it might not be as popular as we think, but we’re all about experimentation. This service will allow anyone with a 3D printer to recycle their failed prints without having to invest in our full recycling setup. In this first phase, we’ll be establishing relationships with customers who are interested in recycling their prints from low-volume to high-volume to anything in between. We’re interested in getting a wide variety of users from all over to create the best possible recycling system. The gist is: we’re doing something new. And we want you to be a part of it. So click here for our Google Form if you’re interested in this new opportunity! Without trying to sound like a Sith Lord: join us. Best, The Filabot Team

Did anyone come accross something like filabot recycling service for the UK?
