Questions about PowerSpec 3D Pro

I am looking at buying a PowerSpec 3d pro but have a few questions that I haven’t been able to find the answers to. First of all can the Pro model print PETG material? I have a few other printers that I have built but want something I can easily print from and don’t have to work on. I have read that the Pro is open source but does that mean I can use Slicer to slicer, save to as card and then directly print?

Unless the material is flexible(which evolves other considerations) you just need to worry about temperature. So the question for any material is, “does your extruder/bed get hot enough for whatever material you want to print?” This is easy to figure out.

I have a powerspec ultra. Pretty much the same as the pro. You can use pet-g with it along with other materials such as tpu, abs, and pla. I don’t recommend ninjaflex without a mod for the printer as ninjaflex is a very bendy material and can jam up the printer very easily.

A lot of slicers work with a power spec. I personally use Simplify3d as I am not fond of cura or some of the other free slicers available. Definitely did not like the software that comes with the printer either. Main reason I use simplify3d is because I like the controls especially when using both extruders to print.

I do recommend printing from the sd card. Printing via usb can sometime cause print issues. Have not had issues printing from the sd card.

I have two PowerSpec 3D Pro printers and have printed quite a few spools of PETG. The one upgrade you’ll want to consider is the micro-swiss all-metal nozzles. Without them, I ran into heat-creep issues which prevented me from printing long-running prints with PETG. If you decide to keep it stock, you’ll want to print and use some of these (thingiverse 492067).

However, if you upgrade the nozzles to micro-swiss, there’s no need for those. I routinely print PETG at 250c, 65c bed temp, on glass with a light coating of hair spray.

I have used MakerWare Desktop on the 3D Pro, but have since switched to Simplify3D and have printed over USB or SD card. I prefer SD cards for longer-running prints.

I enjoy the ultra as well, but it very much is a tinkerer’s printer. I currently do not have the money to purchase any slicers such as simplify3d, so I use the stock slicer. I’ve heard good things about Simplify3d, but can’t bring myself to buy it.

I also have the 3-D Pro and PETG prints just fine. I use BuildTac as on the bed which works great. Do not have to use glue or hairspray for any materials.

I use makerware desktop, which is free, and works just fine. You can customize settings to whatever you want, run from computer or save to SD card.
