hi i got a scholarship to hhave printrbot simple maker in a year i found cura and tried it out but they removed the printrbot from choose printer so i got pronterface. everything works fine i can move all 4 motors via the computer and load in files (but dont see them) and when i press print it says:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “printrun\pronterface.pyc”, line 1132, in printfile
File “printrun\gcoder.pyc”, line 234, in __len__
TypeError: object of type ‘NoneType’ has no len()
what does it mean?
I suggest using Repetier Host and Slic3r as software to control and slice for Printrbot. I myself have an assembled Printrbot Jr (v2) and repetier+slic3r combo worked flawlessly for me. There are a number of tutorials on Printrbot website that explain the setup for various printers. I hope you found this answer helpful. Have fun with your Printrbot! Cheers Wojtek
My advice would be to download version 15.04 of Cura and use that for now. It seems to me like Cura 15.06.01 is missing features that will be implemented once the community unearths and squashes a few bugs.

I started using Cura with my Metal Plus, but I have since moved onto Simplify 3D as my slicer. It gives me much better prints and a lot more control. I know it’s not free, but it will pay for itself in no time, as my quality has gone up. My ABS parts come out beautiful now, being able to control the speed of the outside layer in comparison with other features, as well as infill speed and thickness.
You should try the forums over at Printrbot. They most likely can help you.

Ultimaker just released a new version of Cura geared specifically towards Ultimaker printers and it doesn’t support any other brand. You can download the last stable version that works with Printrbot with the link I provided below. Just select 15.04. The second link is how to set up Cura for your Printrbot Simple Maker. Make sure to scroll down and download the .ini file to configure the profile setting in Cura for your printer. This .ini file basically just presets settings that Printrbot recommends and are a good place to start. You should also configure Cura to use the Pronterface UI to control the printer but the instructions in the second link should help with that. I have a Printrbot Simple Metal with Heated Bed and I use Cura all the time so if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

sorry, I am not knowledgeable about ponterface. I had limited success with Cura 15.04 which is still available here https://ultimaker.com/en/cura-software/list
