Hi,

I am new to 3d printing and I bought a spool of pva and pla. Do you guys have any recommendations on how to print? I tried to print and the pla wouldn’t stick to the pva. I have a QIDI Tech Dual extruder printer.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the PVA sticking to the PLA.

PVA main use is support and I have found that my PLA/PVA prints are well supported and it comes away without leaving any marks.

If the PVA is not sticking to the bed then check your Z height and ensure bed is level.

Ensure that the PVA isn’t too damp and the hot end is at middle of the range of it’s stated temperature.
I have a Flashforge Creator pro and I found ESUN PVA worked best without too much tweaking of the settings.
I’m printing upon Blue Painters tape with a bed temp of 65 degrees C and hot end temp at 200 degrees C also I’m using simplify3d for the print settings.

Hope that helps you out

I tried to print with a pva raft, but the pla , when it started printing, didn’t stick to the raft. How fast are you printing?

Printing speed 1600 mm/min

At what point is the PVA not sticking to PLA? It just needs stick to the plate and provide support for the PLA.

When I use the PVA as a raft, the PLA does not stick to it after the raft is complete

That’s quite a tough one to solve.

You could set the printer to print the raft with PLA. If having problems with first layer lifting use a brim (can be quite a wide one) instead of a raft. Maybe raise the bed temperature by 5 degrees as the reason why the PLA won’t stick to the PVA is that it has gone cold and hard.

The needing to use a raft could also indicate that the print bed is not level so the first layer is not pushed down enough due to having the z height too high, go for a slightly harder grab on a piece of paper.

I got it! I just had to slow down the first layer print speed and set the temperature for the PVA to the minimum (190). Thanks for your help.
