I am very new to the 3d printing world, and especially 3d Hubs.

I was wondering if it was possible for people to print products in large quantities as I see a lot of people requesting a price per print, but not any for bulk orders,

Is this possible on here?

Thanks

HI luke, there is no correct answer to this, it is dependent on so many things…how big/complex is each print? how much are you prepared to spend? ie can you put it on a more professional/larger build bed machine, what quality will you accept? how long can you wait! … its always possible, but not always appropriate.

@lukem96, you can contact individually as you do per print, add all your objects and negotiate the price before going forward. We’ve done it for some cases where people wanted to print multiples of a single object and obviously the prices are lower per piece the more pieces you have. I guess 3dhubs can add an option for price structuring for multiple objects but it is not available right now.

3D printing is not quick ! For large quantities in a short space of time you would need to pick someone with multiple machines preferably of the same type. The price for fdm is based on material consumed therefore you will not see discounts for bulk orders, 100 parts take 100 times the time to print as one part and use 100 times the material. Alternatively several of the people on 3d hubs can offer alternative techniques such as printing molds and casting where there may be economy of scale.

I sure most people will give you a competitive price for bulk printing. Obviously though the size of your item would effect the time it would take to provide you with the quantities you require.

I’m just trying to get a rough idea on costs at the moment to see if this will be a viable option at all.

Would you be able to give me a rough price on lets say 100 units of a phonecase that is a bit more bulky than most, has a weight of about 40 grams, no complicated patterns are involved.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Hey there, Luke,

As the guys say, there’s really no economy-of-scale in 3D printing, but several of us to offer volume discounts, if only to keep the printers working. There are volume points where different production techniques become more viable but, if you specifically need 3D prints, I’m sure I’d be able to help you out and, in any case, I can advise you of the best options.

Feel free to get in touch via my hub and let me quote ya happy!

Cheers,

Hi Luke,

It is possible to order multiple pieces to print and pricing of course is lower than ordering them individually due to two reasons: 1st is not being charged for startup cost for each piece, second is the practicality of using same file(most of the time customers need multiple copies of same print). Anyway, it is both possible and rather economical than ordering each piece separately. Of course, it depends on the hubs fabrication speed and the deadline you would set meeting each other.

Kind regards.

Hi Luke,

I am currently having an order that requires large quantities (400pcs). I offer quite a large discount for big quantities, I can’t give you exact numbers, because this all is customly discussed for each order.

If you want something like 100pcs of parts that are “phone-sized” I could do that for you, please contact me via my hub:

https://www.3dhubs.com/siegen/hubs/marius/ 1

You have to select the button “request a quote” for contact. I offer alot of materials, from cheap and easy to high-end industrial materials. All of those in a variety of colors (custom colors get ordered for large quantities) and with different physical properties, that will suit your needs.

I’m also experienced in CAD design and work with professional software, so if you need modifications to make the parts easier to print or something like that (ie. reducing support material cost).

Hope to hear from you,

Marius

PS: If you could send me the files I could make a custom cost estimation (also with quantity discount) as well as material guidance etc.

No problem to print larger quantities, with of course a discount, Luke
