I am an current engineering student and for our freshman project we build a 3D printer. Specifically a CTC Bizer. For about a semester it worked perfectly. I would tune it here and there and got some really quality prints out of it. Towards the end of the semester both of my thermocouples went out at the same time so I replaced them with spares the school had. Around this time I also experimented with different extruded fan mounts but have since gone to the original. Not long after my printer started having some software problems. At first it was only a few here and there but after a while it got increasingly worse particularly after printing almost 100 of the same print. The problem that I am having is that, particularly at the beginning of prints, the printer will either stop printing, grind back to the starting position, completely restart, lightly tick once, or just grind over to a new position and continue printing. All of these are accompanied with the screen glitching in and displaying random characters. (see the picture) I asked my instructor about possible fixes and he said that Ferite rings might be a possible fix. I have since purchased some but the problem still remains. Has anyone heard of or felt with this before? I honestly have no idea what to do.

Hello!

Its never fun to have issues with your printer, is it? This seems to be a common problem with this printer. I would try a few things. First, get the filmware from your printer’s manufacturer and reflash the main board. There is a chance your filmware is corrupted. Second, refer to this post (Talk Manufacturing | Hubs) and try out the suggestions there.

Let us know if we that works!

Hey Sam, thanks for the help. Where would you suggest I go to get the firmware? I’ve not much messed with the software.
