I guys,

I would like to suggest a new feature for the 3DHubs Services.

Imagine that some one that doesn’t have a 3D Printer finds about a nice pay 3D Model that a friend downloaded and printed. This person asks his friend if i can print another one and sell to him. This friend should say to him, that he can’t, because when buying the 3D model files he agrees to print only for himself and not to share the files. In reality, this doesn’t happens because, nobody will know if he sells or not, and so he does sell to his friend and the author doesn’t receive his share.

Now, imagine that this person could send a print job to his friend of a pay model, were royalties were given to the author of the model, and the rest to the hub that printed it.

What do you guys think about it?

Interesting idea. The copyright issue is one of the scary parts of 3D printing, but how do you imagine doing this? I think what you’re imagine is something like our Thingiverse integration - where if you print something from the website the Hub gets the money from the printjob, but the person who designed it is actually known and will get a “tip” for it, right?

So I think our API integration is the beginning of creating the environment where the designers are attributed fairly

Exactly. Would be nice to have the same integration with sites like: https://cults3d.com/, https://www.redpah.com/, https://3dagogo.com/, to name a few. Sites were authors can upload their work and be payed for it.

Do STL files need a DRM solution applied? I think they should. I am not aware of an existing solution right now, so if you know one, i would be interested. Maybe an adapted software licensing system?
