I’ve got a complex print that’s a bangle full of holes. It prints OK, but the holes in the sides have some sharp edges/bumps/flaws; they’re tiny but if it’s going to be worn on the wrist it could be annoying. The client is happy to sand the part to remove them, but I’d rather find a way to avoid them in the first place.

The bits between the holes are very small, maybe 2mm square at their smallest so, my thoughts are that “bumps” are likely to be the result of either over-extrusion upon restart (i.e. not enough retraction upon moves) or lack of cooling. This is printing in PLA and the fan’s already at 100%, but I’m considering adding a pillar to the print to allow the previous layer to cool a little before printing the next (much like the trick of printing two or more Marvins).

Does this sound like a good idea? My main worry is that moving between the pillar and the part may create more spikes.

I’d love to do some tests, but the part will take 9 hours to print and it really needs to get about half way through before there’s enough to (carefully) feel while printing.
