I started a 3d print today when I noticed that the lines it was printing were very thin. I went into my slicing software (crua) and noticed that the flow was at 115%. I backed it down to 100 and sent the Gcode to my printer. I again noticed that the line were MUCH wider than 0.3mm, my current resolution. I measured a line of printed filament with my digital calipers, and noticed that while it is 0.2mm in height instead of 0.3mm and is almost 1mm wide what is wrong? Is this overextrusion?
If you’re just looking at the first layer, a lot of those line width issues can be related to your bed leveling. Too thin and you may be too far from the bed and too flat and you may be too close and are smashing your first layer into the bed. It sounds like you may be too close which is why your lines are lower than your first layer setting while also being wider than you would expect. What is your nozzle diameter?
I generally wouldn’t try to calibrate for under/over-extrusion using the first layer since there are so many other variables that are difficult to control for.
My nozzle diameter is 0.4. I will try to lower the bed a little bit and see if that helps.
