Hey out there, the story starts with me buying what I thought was a Daredevil mask and after weeks of waiting for said mask I cottoned on the idea that I had actually bought a 3D download, Doh! Anyway I have no idea on any level about 3D printing. I have noted that there are recommended materials to use, but the size seems to be an issue because after dropping the file into the drop box I’m being told that the mask’s dimensions are 4.1 x 6.4 x 4.6 cm which seems to be a tad small for a mask.

I would appreciate any input on this
daredevil_helmet.stl (37.4 MB)

Hey,

When importing the file into slicer software it comes out at 105mm x 153mm x 117mm (Approx). The file is in inches format and needed converting (via the import) into mm.

J.

I would hope that whichever hub you end up printing with would talk you through the issues with the model.
If you’re looking to get this printed so that it’s wearable it may be useful to look at this similar file on Thingiverse for sizing Daredevil Cowl (Netflix) by ck247 - Thingiverse
I have printed this myself and while it did fit before it was glued together, it would have been better to make with flexible filament so that it can be pulled on/off easier. I guess what I’m saying is that it’s important to be sure the mask will be wearable when finished, as otherwise what’s the point?

You may want to go ahead and figure out your hat measurement using something like Hat Sizing - How to Determine Your Hat Size - Village Hat Shop, this info can be useful for making sure that helmets/masks/etc fit properly once printed. Ideally you’d want it to be a little bit bigger than skintight, then use foam padding to make up the difference so that it fits snugly. Nobody likes a wobbly mask.
If you have more questions feel free to message, best of luck with the print!

No-one has a head that small, though.

Hi, How would you like to help? If you want to try to adjust and extrude the mask. Sorry for my English

I’ll take a better look at the file when I get home, but it seems the sizing is well off. - Either way, you’ll want to get it sized right for your head, or whoever the mask is going to be worn by. Check out a hub near you with a high rating and praise for good service attitude, and you should be fine! - If there is none, I - and a bunch of others - can size the file correctly for you, don’t worry!

Is this a mask you are going to wear? I will drop this into my programs and check it out.

I’m getting it close to your dimensions when I open it just shy of 50mm, looks like it is more of a desk top item than an actual mask.

It can potentially be scaled to size and printed, I’d suggest going slightly over size and padding with foam so that you’ll be able to get it on and off, and to make it a little more comfortable.

Roger that. Whoever came up with this RepRap stuff sure didn’t think that the minimum print volume should be the size of a large head. Maybe it’s for a newborn. I’m pretty sure my babies were daredevils when they exited the womb.

Scaling the part to the size of your head make require cutting up the helmet into different parts, and assembling the parts together.

On that note, how big is the head your trying to fit this helmet on. I concur with the dimension 105x by 153y by 117z millimetres for the dimensions.

Thanks for all your advice I really appreciate it, the mask is for me to wear, my head circumference is about 58cm. I have shot an email to the vendor and will see what they come back with. From what I’m seeing from all your posts someone with the expertise that is evident out there would be able to resize it. I am keen to get this mask printed, I’ll wait to see what the vendor says and go from there.

Thanks everyone, be safe, Joe.
