Newb question

okay so I am very new to 3D printing. Just put mine together in February. It is an I3 that I got from Folgertech and it has been running fantastic no issues that don’t have to do with my own mistakes. I got my first clogged nozzle last night. I was able to clean it out easily and get printing again.

Here is my question. When I got the nozzle assembly apart inside the threaded tube leading to the nozzle was a bit of clear tubing that the filament runs trough. The end of it was all black and chard and I think this is where my clog came from. So what is this tube? What is it for?

With it being chard up I’m afraid it will cause more clogging but I also don’t want to just start removing parts. Any insite would be appreciated.

It is the PTFE liner. High temperatures cause it to breakdown, turn black and cause jams. You can buy new throats from ebay inexpensively and they come with a new liner.

You can order ptfe tubing from various places, including amazon and http://www.unclechucks3dprinterstuff.com/ and other various places. Cut it to match as close as possible to the existing ptfe tubing. if it is too short, you will get clogs in your nozzle. if it is too long, it will squish in the end, which will make it so you cannot feed filament through.

Check with the extra parts that came with your printer. Some printer manufacturers add a few extras in their spare parts.
