This one was in stock as a repackage so I’m guessing original owner returned it. It came with a bare metal bed and a couple scratches where the spool holder mounts. I downloaded the elephant as a first print since my wife is not a cat fan and after a couple of restarts due to print not sticking, it turned out great! Print stuck to bed much better after i switched from gluestick to masking tape.
I have at least one issue and maybe a couple others. There is a definite bowl to the bed that was not helping with getting the print started. The corners will all tug at a piece of paper but the rest of the bed does not. I can freely move the head around the print area with no resistance except near the corners. I raised the entire bed a bit higher than it should be so the small print area I was actually using is at the correct height and will have to re-level for a larger print. Figured I would try one of those screw and lever prints to see if raising the middle helps.
A question about operation. Should the bed maintain temp throughout the entire print? The bed temp would not come up to 60 until I applied the masking tape layer to the base and then I noticed it had dropped back down into the 20s after the model had started. Is that normal or do I have an issue with the print bed heater?
It is a V2 style LCD menu and Cura is out of date (15.something). Should i go ahead and update Cura and check firmware revision and start tinkering with settings and parts or shoot this back and try a brand spanking new one? (current pricing at the big smiley box store is $220 and i got this one from their warehouse as “scratches and repackaged” in the description.
Next planned prints would be the leveling screw set, an easier to turn knob, and some fan mods to mount it more securely and put a cover on the back.
the bed should hold temp
I would email them with issues and get RMA to ship it back.
They will send you a new one.
Next time check on opening and see if it is a return and RMA it again.
Cheers
Garth
I’d put a glass plate on the bed. That will take care of the bowing, then use glue stick on the glass.
You can get four pieces cut from a window pane for under $5 at Lowe’s or such. Print a piece, remove
the glass and put it in the freezer. Ten minutes later it pops off with no problem. Meanwhile you can
start another print on another piece of glass. No re-leveling required.
Don’t forget to print the z-spacer piece before adding the glass.
Why not a heated bed. My Monoprice Mini with glass plates heats quite nicely.
Yeah, when I bought my first car I returned it because a tire went flat.
