I’m thinking about tweaking my Select Mini to have a slightly larger Y-axis. The stock dimension is about 1/2" too short to print phone cases for most smartphones. It looks like it should be a reasonable upgrade, but I haven’t tried sourcing the parts yet.
The 8mm smooth rod is easy to source, I’ll design the new bed to not require it to have threaded ends. Getting a PCB of the new dimension might be a challenge. Most of the ones I’ve seen online (after only a few minutes searching) are square. The new dimension will be in the neighborhood of 120mm x 240mm. Maybe I could use 2 120mm elements wired in parallel?
I’ll probably have different power requirements with a bigger bed, or the dual element approach I think I may be stuck with.

Here is a thread that is somwhat related to your idea. Also just looking at the bed on my printer if you were to make it so that the entire length could be utilized for printing you would be able to print a phone case for my relatively large Nexus 6p, so you may not need to modify that part. Thanks, I appreciate the reference. After posting last night I found a kit that is specifically for this need. It’s on the Select Mini Wiki no less. It had a name that didn’t exactly jump out at me. It’s kind of an expensive upgrade ($100), but good to know it’s available.
