Greetings.

I am our school’s Librarian and we recently got a few 3D printers. I am trying to come up with some group projects that our Middle Schoolers could work on together, specifically for Science. I have scoured the web trying to see if any ideas would work. Our Environmental Science teachers are totally on board, but I am having trouble thinking up a few 3D printing projects that can the students can work together on and be designed in Tinkercad. If anyone has a few ideas, I’d truly appreciate it.

The only idea I came upon that sparked my interest was designing/printing underwater, artificial reefs. However, as we use PLA, I don’t think that would work (or be environmentally friendly). But something innovative and cutting-edge like that, would be amazing.

Many thanks!

Regarding PLA being environmentally safe, I just read that it is corn-starched based, and thus, IS considered environmentally safe. Is that correct? If so, perhaps that would open the door up for a few project ideas with the students.

I’m still searching for a couple of projects we might be able to do, so, please chime in!

Have you thought about self-watering planters? I’m not sure how easily they could be designed in TinkerCAD though…
