Ever since I first started at 3D Hubs I wanted to design and print some cool stuff! We needed some prints to pimp our office, so I just wanted to share this modified Marvin model for the cacti on our desks. The standard pot was pretty boring so I scaled the Marvin model and made a hole in the top of his head.

I’ve used the Leapfrog Creatr HS to print this model with PLA filament. The layer height is 0,2mm and I used a standard 20% infill since it’s a pretty big model.

Here’s the first result, printed with shiny green filament.

There was some “spaghetti” at the places where Marvin had some overhangs like under his ears/top of the eyes/ between the legs. So I’ve printed another one in black, with support.

The surface wasn’t really smooth because of the support material. I’ve removed most of it, but it still needs some work. I’ll keep you guys posted! If you have any tips for this, please let me know.

And if you like this Marvin, the planter edition, we’ll make sure to put it on Thingiverse so you can print one yourself.

Cheers,

Daan

This is amazing!

Such a great design Daan! Thanks for sharing! Is the file available for us to print too?

My kind of Marvin

This is awesome!

So, for this size you need support or not ?

No, actually not really. Some support can still help avoiding some overhangs, but in general it prints well without as well

Arnold is right, the green Ine was printer without support. Removing the support grom the black Ine was suite tricky. Of already took quite some time to print it, so a lower layer height or slower printspeed will take even longer…
